Mat silicone heat-resistant. Silicone mat for soldering

radioblogful. The soldering video blog decided to upgrade the soldering place, the filming micro-studio. Previously, while soldering some kind of appliances, you saw this picture: cheap, cheerful, but not beautiful. Unkillable soldering surface, but I decided to make it prettier. As you can see, by the title of the video, this Chinese package contains a rather heavy silicone mat which turned out to be a handy soldering tool.
You can buy it in this Chinese store.

I stumbled upon it quite by accident, I wanted to order a mat of a standard size, but I saw a rather interesting picture: in the picture it is a mat with cells in which we put radio components when soldering!
This is beauty! The dimensions of this mega rug are 25 cm by 35 cm. How it looks compared to an A4 sheet - in fact, quite a healthy one, not a rug, but a whole Persian carpet! When you assemble something, you solder it, and some screws and bolts are taken and fall to the floor. Thanks to these cells, we put the capacitor and it will not fall anywhere, even if it wants to. Eight small square cells, one large round, the other small round and rectangular - so many cells!
It is convenient when soldering, when assembling sets of all kinds: I packaged all the parts, put them on shelves, in boxes, without worrying that something would roll onto the floor. Pleasure is not cheap - the cost is around $ 13-15. But I decided to strangle the toad and still order. It will be enough for a long time and it will not come into disrepair in a couple of months. Well, let's check how he copes with fluxes, solders and soldering iron blows.

Turn on the soldering iron, t 290 C, take flux 320, rosin and more Chinese flux, as well as solder. Let's try to destroy the rug. Let's choose the far corner of the rug just in case, which will not fall into the camera lens so often. For starters, just a test - poke with a soldering iron. At first, a white stripe remains from the touch of the soldering iron, but then it disappears - it's normal! Let's try to drop the solder on it - the solder has cooled down, and we can easily remove it, everything is fine! Let's try to drip flux 320 and fry it with relish. What? We also fry the Chinese flux. Well, your favorite rosin - let's drop it on the rug. Let the rosin burn.
Continued from 5 minutes.

Heat Resistant Soldering Mat

Today we're going to take a look at a heat resistant silicone soldering mat, but first don't forget to subscribe to the channel so you don't miss a new video. I purchased this rug for US $3.42. Now delivery has also been added, but you still won’t find cheaper.

The size of this silicone mat is 18cm x 23cm, thickness 3mm. It is very soft and slightly sticky to the touch, but does not leave any marks on the hands. It can be easily rolled into a tube and always fully unfolds. The specifications on the seller's page indicate that the material of this rug can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees, which we will now check.

For such a test, my Triton building hair dryer is just right. This hair dryer gives us the maximum temperature we need of 500 degrees Celsius.

I will fry at this temperature on a rug with ordinary tin, bought at the market, with the addition of a MECHANIK flux. I expect it all to come together in one ball. I will also add more solder paste mechanic to make it more interesting.

I turn on the hair dryer to the maximum, and I understand that it would be necessary to preheat it. When the flux melted, the tin began to roll on the mat like clockwork. From heating, the mat expands, and the place of heating bulges upwards with a huge bubble, and from a strong flow of hot air, all this stuff rolled down. I had to catch pieces of solder and melt them separately.

Then I again tried to put it all together, but the hair dryer again inflated everything in different directions. Some balls still stuck together, but the flux even burned out from such a temperature. Fortunately, all this garbage is perfectly erased. The rug is not afraid of various solvents and I wiped all this with ordinary alcohol. It conducts heat poorly, but heats up decently. Scrubbing it all with a cotton swab with alcohol was hot. The soldering mat withstood all this and only a small speck remained on it, where there was the largest drop of solder.

Now I want to try a more contact method, with a soldering iron. With a hot soldering iron, I applied some ordinary Chinese rosin to the mat and melted some of the solder. The ball of solder rolled on the surface and did not come off the tip of the soldering iron. FROM reverse side rug, I tried to touch this place with my finger. It was hot, but there was still a long way to go before getting burned. The soldering iron is turned on to the maximum, and after a couple of minutes of operation, the temperature rises already over 450 degrees Celsius.

The rest of the rosin was simply swept away with a cotton swab. If the mat is bent at this point, the rosin will crack and fall off. After this test, there is still a spot in the place of constant heating, but this does not prevent you from using the mat further.

Greetings to all who looked at the light. The review will focus on, as you probably already guessed, a very convenient heat-resistant silicone mat designed to protect the workplace during soldering or other operations associated with heating. The review will contain a description and direct testing of the rug using a soldering station, so anyone interested, you are welcome under cat.

General view of the silicone mat:

Brief performance characteristics:

Type - substrate
- Dimensions - 400mm*350mm
- Thickness - 2.7mm (3mm maximum)
- Maximum temperature - 500°С
- Material – silicone (silica gel)
- The presence of sections - yes (large and small)
- Magnets in sections - no
- Weight - 442g

Appearance:

The heat-resistant silicone mat comes rolled up in a regular postal bag with a bubble wrap. Additionally, it is wrapped in polyethylene film:

Without the shipping film, the mat looks like this:

By appearance no complaints: there are no swellings, cuts or scratches, there is no foreign smell and does not appear when heated. As they say, cheap and cheerful, especially given the rather large dimensions of the rug 40cm * 35cm.

Unfortunately, the mat does not have restrictive sides around the perimeter (only from the side of the sections). Perhaps for someone this will be a minus, but in my opinion, the presence of special sections solves this problem in the bud:

Cut resistance is minimal, so it is advisable to exclude various work with a sharp tool on it. A small incision with a knife:

The main thickness of the mat is about 2.7mm, which is enough for most jobs:

It is worth noting that the thickness has a greater effect on the convenience when working with a soldering gun, because. The "air bubble" there is formed much more slowly. For soldering with a familiar soldering iron, 2 mm of normal heat-resistant silicone is enough for the eyes. The current thickness reliably protects the material under the mat from heating.

The main advantage of this rug is its flexibility, which makes it very easy to roll the rug:

The mat has no memory effect, i.e. when straightened from a twisted state, the ends do not bulge and the rug does not strive to curl up to its original position. Although one drawback should be noted, namely, the accumulation of static charge. Unlike cheap crafts that crackle with static when rolled up, this rug is just “white and fluffy,” so don’t skimp on matches. No cod, but dust builds up a bit. Everything is solved by surface treatment with a household antistatic agent.

I can’t say anything for sure about the material of the rug, but most likely from silica gel. Temperature resistance up to 500°C is declared.

As mentioned earlier, the dimensions of the pad are 400mm * 350mm, which is quite enough for most tasks (working with a soldering iron and hot air gun, heating any parts, etc.). According to tradition, a comparison with a box of matches and a thousandth banknote:

As well as a comparison with some work items:

There are not so many small compartments, but it is quite enough to group various elements and protect them from falling somewhere under the table:

They do not have built-in magnets, so you should not sneeze on the rug :-).

Testing:

For testing, I will use a simple stand from a YIHUA 995D soldering station and a piece of Soviet POS-40 solder:

Since the solder contains 40% tin and 60% lead (melting point 238°C), the temperature of the soldering iron was set to 400°C, the piece of solder itself:

The solder melted, no "haze" and "holes" under it were found:

To heighten the effect, I also poked the sting on the rug:

The solder does not stick to the mat at all, no heating of the elements under the mat (table) was detected. Small traces of rosin slag remained on the rug:

We take a cotton swab and erase everything. At this place, only a small trace remained, which does not affect the working qualities of the rug in any way:

Another small demo:

I add a small test for thermal conductivity, the temperature of the soldering iron is 480 ° C:

As it turned out, only with a long hold of the soldering iron, the temperature approaches a hundred. Usually they are soldered at a temperature of 300-350 ° C and rarely when the parts to be soldered are placed on the substrate. Although this is also worth considering.

In total, what we have in the dry residue:

The heat-resistant rug perfectly fulfills its duties, namely, it allows you to organize workplace and protects the elements under it from temperature effects (the surface of a table or curbstone)
+ the dimensions of the mat (40cm * 35cm) are enough for any tasks
+ the mat is soft, flexible and perfectly adapts to any surface relief
+ it does not slip on any surface of the table or cabinet, and also prevents the parts placed on it from sliding
+ easy to clean under running water when finished
+ a little “greasy” to the touch, so it is suitable for working with adhesives (nothing sticks to the mat)
+ does not smell, does not emit odors when heated

± The mat collects static a little, so I don’t recommend repairing “sensitive” boards or elements without antistatic treatment. As an option - an antistatic wristband, but antistatic is much more effective
± thickness working surface at 2.7 mm - only affects the rate of formation of an "air bubble" when working with a hot air gun. 5mm mats are very stable but cost twice as much

The rug is not resistant to cuts, so I do not advise cutting or picking anything on it (a disease of all rugs)
- no restrictive boards

Conclusion: heat-resistant silicone mat left a pleasant impression. I understand that there are more budgetary solutions in the form of plywood or a stack of unnecessary newspapers, but believe me - this is not it. These mats win both in terms of versatility and heat resistance. After work, you can simply rinse it under running water, which is unacceptable with plywood. In addition, a sheet of plywood cannot be twisted and put on a shelf, and when working, it slides quite strongly on the table and, without an appropriate lining, can easily scratch the surface. Everyone chooses for himself whether he needs this device or not. I recommend to buy, the thing is really useful and convenient ...

Don't forget about discount coupons. Coupon is still working elec, which reduces the cost by 10%.

During work with a soldering iron, it is imperative to protect the table. At any moment, a drop of hot flux or solder can fall from the tool and destroy your furniture. Often ordinary sheets of paper or cardboard are used for protection, but in modern world for a long time at

We thought of an interesting and functional thing - a silicone mat for soldering. It will help you to keep the table surface in perfect condition.

Main features of the soldering mat

  1. The rug has compact dimensions - 350x220 mm.
  2. The main material is silicone.
  3. Manufacturers claim that this repair and soldering mat is resistant to high temperatures - 500 ° C.
  4. Easy to feel detergents and soft cloth.
  5. Resistant to aggressive environments and all types of solvents.
  6. This mat is easy to store and rolls up easily.
  7. Available in four colors (black, white, gray and blue).
  8. It is a good partner for a hair dryer.
  9. The depth of the cells is from two to two and a half millimeters.
  10. There is a special ruler on the mat itself.
  11. The thickness of the soldering mat is four millimeters.

How to use an antistatic soldering mat

Often during the assembly of any structures in which a soldering iron is involved, small parts or capacitors roll off the surface of the table. When using a silicone heat-resistant soldering mat, this problem is easily solved. It contains special cells different sizes to store all the necessary parts. It is very comfortable, small items do not slip or roll off the work surface.

Just place a heat-resistant soldering mat on the table surface before starting work.

A number of rug tests were carried out.

  1. The soldering iron was heated to three hundred degrees Celsius, and small droplets of solder were left. There were no obvious defects after the procedure.
  2. A simple sheet of paper was placed under the surface of the mat to check how manipulations with the soldering iron are reflected on the surface of the table. We heated the tool to a high temperature and tested the mat. There are no marks left on the surface of the paper.
  3. On the surface of the silicone mat for soldering with aliexpress, tin was heated with a building hair dryer at a temperature of about five hundred degrees Celsius. During the manipulation, the surface of the material was slightly swollen, but after cooling it returned to its original state.
  4. All the soot that formed on the rug after the tests was washed off with simple alcohol without much difficulty.
  5. Since the mat is made of silicone, dust or small debris will stick to it during use, but it can be easily removed with plain water. After cleaning, the rug looks like new.

Below is a video of the mat being tested.

Where can I buy silicone mat for soldering

Silicone mat for soldering can be bought at https://ru.aliexpress.com. The price for such a thing is acceptable - from nine to twelve US dollars. You can try to search other online stores and buy a heat-resistant soldering mat at a discount.

From all of the above, we can conclude that this is a very simple thing. At the same time, it is convenient and practically necessary for people who perform various work with a soldering iron. And small cells for small parts and elements are just salvation. Such rug does not roll down and does not slide on a table surface. Yes, and working on it is much more pleasant than on an old, dirty, burnt board.
