Make beautiful slide show transitions in Lightroom.

Running slideshow from Library and Develop

To watch a slideshow in Llightroom, it is not necessary to go to the module of the same name and turn the handles in it. While in Library or Develop, simply press Ctrl+Enter and Lightroom will launch a Slideshow including the photos that were in that view, be it a collection or a folder. You can also use the play button, if it is not there, call it in the drop-down list on the toolbar, which, in turn, is called by the T key.

Yes, it was decided by a general vote to replace the laughter in the hall with pop-up prompts of keyboard shortcuts ... OK ... Which, however, does not mean replacing stupid jokes with really funny ones.

The slideshow settings will be used by the current ones, and in order to change them, we need to open this module and turn the knobs. In addition to the desire to change the settings, we can be attracted here by the ability to export slideshows to a video file and to PDF. This will allow us to take our slideshow outside of Lightroom and further, we can post this business on the net or send it by mail.

Export slideshow

By clicking on the export to PDF button, we get to a window in which we see a warning below that in PDF, transitions between photos always occur at the same speed. We cannot change this here, but the duration of the photo display that we have set will work. Your recipient can open this PDF in free program Adobe Reader and click View-Full Screen Mode, or press Ctrl+L and view your slideshow without music. And if you ticked Automatically show full screen, then it doesn't need to switch to Full Screen, the document will open by itself. In the width and height fields, set the size of the PDF pages in pixels. But you can simply select one of the commonly used sizes from the Common sizes drop-down list.

Exporting to video is also nothing complicated: the size is selected, in the sense, the resolution of the video, a name is given and that's it. When you select a video preset, below it you can see a short description of what this size is usually used for. The format here, as you can see, is one, mp4. Video of course, will be with music.

It was export, now about one more chip - output creation.

This is a collection with specific slideshow settings. Mix of collection and preset. Select the photos in the filmstrip, click on the plus sign next to the word Collections, set a name, check the include selected photos - the output creation is ready. That is, this collection remembers the current slideshow settings and the photos in it will always be played with these settings. Well, you know how to add photos to a collection from any module. Output creation can be done not only for slideshows, but for other output modules, Print and WEB.

slideshow setup

Now about how to actually set up the slideshow. In filmstrip, you can drag and drop to change the order of photos if they are in a collection or in the same folder. Also note what is selected in the Use drop-down list, that is, which ones to use: selected, all in filmstrip, or flagged. Next is the play button.

ABC is a text tool. By clicking on it, a form appears where you can enter your text or select which metadata the program will display itself. The text template itself is configured manually directly in the preview window.

The rest of the settings are concentrated in the right panel. Everything you do there is immediately displayed in the preview window, so here, I think, no one will have any difficulties. Therefore, I will not maniacally paint every button on this panel, but some.

We control the location of the photo itself both by directly dragging the limiting lines, and by the sliders in the layout panel. In the panel, you can link the sliders by clicking on link all. All fields will be the same. If necessary, you can untie certain sliders from the rest.

The Overlays panel manages various overlays, as the name suggests, such as the identity plate, watermark, the text we just talked about, and the star rating. For each of these elements, you can select various additional parameters: color, opacity, scale, you can even choose a font for the text (the test module must be selected).

Backdrop is a backdrop, background. You can use any photo from the film strip by simply dragging it either onto this rectangle or simply onto the central window. Color wash is a gradient background shade. Choose color, angle, transparency. It turns out the transition from the Background color to the Color wash color

Next is a panel dedicated to the design of the introductory and final screens. Which, however, can be turned off altogether. Every time you make a change, a preview is enabled here for a few seconds showing the changes. Everything is clear and simple, regardless of knowledge of English. And from here there is access to the notorious Watermark editor window, however, as well as from many other places in the program. Wherever a watermark might be needed.

Playback is in command of the music. Now you can only specify one music file, you can't specify a folder. There is an interesting option to automatically adjust the slideshow to the duration of the music, the fit to music button. It calculates exactly the duration of the slide show. The transitions between them, the fades, stay as you made them. By the way, they can be tinted by marking Color.

Well, how about without presets. All this beauty can be saved in a preset. The plus button, the create name, and that's it. Presets lend themselves to systematization, they can be placed in folders.

The question of using Adobe Lightroom asked by many novice photographers. This is not surprising, because the program is really quite difficult to master. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with various lessons that will help you understand how to work with this application and become a more advanced user.

Beginning users are primarily faced with the need to install Adobe Lightroom. This operation is carried out approximately according to the same principle as with the rest of the software, but with certain nuances. Our article from another author, which you can find by clicking on the link below, will help to deal with them.

Language change

Many users learn Lightroom by following guides from developers or professional users. All of them can use different interface languages, and this sometimes causes difficulties in learning. In the program, you can independently choose any convenient language, which will help to improve the situation. This is done through the main settings menu by pressing a couple of buttons.

Using hotkeys

In all such software there are built-in keyboard shortcuts that make it easier to perform certain actions. The software in question is no exception and offers the user a large set of hot keys. Of course, it will take a certain amount of time to remember the main ones, but then the speed of work will increase much, and it will become easier to use the tools. We suggest you familiarize yourself with the list of combinations in our separate material below.

Creating Your Own Filters

Editing a photo in Adobe Lightroom is almost never complete without applying filters and various effects. The program itself has many ready-made configurations, but its main feature is a tool for creating your own presets. You can either make them manually or download ready-made ones from the Internet. Using a function of this kind will significantly reduce the time it takes to process an existing photo.

Portrait retouching

Portrait retouching refers to the alteration of an original photograph in order to improve its quality or hide imperfections. The retouching procedure includes: elimination of skin defects, facial plasticity, replacement of hair or eye color, color correction and work with the figure. The functionality of the software in question allows you to fully complete the task, the user only needs to find and apply the appropriate tools.

Photo color correction

I would like to devote a separate topic to color correction in a photo, since this operation is quite extensive and difficult to understand for novice users. By clicking on the link below, you will find all the necessary information on this topic with a detailed explanation of each step. After reading this material, even an inexperienced user will be able to master the basics of color correction.

Photo processing example

Adobe Lightroom has many more useful tools and features that can be talked about for a very long time. Instead, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with an example of standard image processing, where all the main features are involved and the finished result is shown. Such a lesson will help you understand the full picture of work in this software.

batch processing

Sometimes you need to process several images according to the same scenario. Lightroom's built-in tools allow you to do this in just a few clicks, avoiding having to re-apply all the settings to each photo. The user only needs to select all the required images, set up filters, effects, apply them, and only then proceed to save the finished project.

Saving photos

When all interactions with the snapshots are completed, all that remains is to save them. This is done by pressing just a couple of keys with the preliminary location of the files. If you have problems with this process, we advise you to resort to the help of a separate guide below, where everything is described step by step, as well as screenshots.

As you can see, with additional help in the form of instructions, working in Lightroom is not so difficult. The main problems, perhaps, lie in the development of libraries, because it is not entirely clear to a beginner where to look for imported ones in different time groups of pictures. Otherwise, Adobe Lightroom is quite user friendly.

Last week I managed to create my first slide show, and the wonderful result I got made me write this article. Yes, I was surprised how easy it is to create a slideshow from a collection of photos in the program Adobe Lightroom 4. But what I will show today can be done in any other software that the modern market offers to choose from.

The first thing to do is to collect all the desired images in one folder. How you will select them, on what topics, this is your business. You can collect photographs that will link various events together, you can combine them according to some season or period of time, and so on and so forth. I made a slideshow of photographs of flowers taken over the past year. All photos have been edited and adjusted to a uniform width of 1200 pixels on the large side. Then I arranged them in the order in which I would like to see them in the video.

Well done on the creation of the "cover" and the last sheet slide show.

Then I picked up the music for my sweet show. Now, on the Internet, you can find many resources where you can buy good music videos for free or at a very reasonable price, which you can safely use in your work. I wanted my video clip to last no more than 4 minutes. Everything was done as it should, the music harmonized with my photographs and complemented them, emphasizing all the tenderness and beauty of fresh flowers.

Once everything was ready, I imported the images into Adobe Lightroom 4. And then the usual setup began. various tools programs to achieve my goal. This process is long to describe, so I suggest you use this excellent video tutorial, created by the experts at Adobe.

Create a slideshow in Lightroom 4.

And here is mine final result, which is hosted on the well-known YouTube resource: 2013 Flowers by Clemons Kathleen.
