The development of modern technologies has a direct impact on the aviation industry. According to experts, in the future computers and other electronics will completely replace pilots. Despite this, we must not forget about the liners that are being created now and assembled in the past. It is these models of aircraft that form the basis of the current developments of aircraft manufacturing companies. The largest air transport is the An-225 aircraft, which is used to transport bulky cargo over long distances. This liner is made in a single copy. In our article, we propose to discuss specifications aircraft Mriya An-225.

An-225 "Mriya" - a unique transport aircraft, characterized by an extra large payload

The history of the creation of the largest aircraft

Many people living in countries former USSR know what the aircraft in question looks like. Quite interesting is the fact that in order to create the largest vehicle it only took three years. This project was opened in 1985. In one thousand nine hundred and eighty-eighth year, test tests of this model took place. Soviet designers managed to create this liner in an extremely short time, thanks to the existing developments. An-225 was created on the basis of the platform of another model of the liner, released by the design bureau led by Viktor Tolmachev. It was this bureau that developed the An-124 aircraft, better known as Ruslan.

The main purpose of creating the liner in question was to transport the main components of the Buran rocket from the manufacturer's factory to the cosmodrome. For this purpose, the designers created a special suspension system for attaching cargo to the fuselage of the aircraft, since the rocket itself could not fit in the luggage compartment of the aircraft. Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that the government planned to use this liner in the space sector.

The carrying capacity of the Mriya aircraft is several times higher than that of standard transport aircraft. It should be noted here that this vessel is capable of carrying cargo that has impressive dimensions. That is why this airship was used for transportation space rocket"Energy".

The main task of Mriya was to transport parts of spacecraft from the central part of Russia to the Baikonur cosmodrome.

In addition, the liner was planned to be used to meet the needs of the national economy. Today, this aircraft is used to transport bulky cargo over long distances. However, let's get back to the history of this liner. In the winter of one thousand nine hundred and eighty-nine, the engineers of the design bureau presented the created model of a transport ship to the general public. Just a few months later, the liner went on its first flight from Kyiv to Kazakhstan. During this flight, there were about sixty tons of cargo on board the airship.

Just a few months later, the liner went to the capital of France in order to become a participant in the aviation exhibition. This transport aircraft is a real treasure of aviation, as it holds more than two hundred records listed in the Guinness Book. The creators of this airliner planned to use it not only in the space sphere, but also to solve less global problems. The list of tasks of this liner includes the following items:

  1. Organization of transportation of goods of wide purpose.
  2. Implementation of a non-stop flight within the continent.
  3. Cargo transportation from one continent to another.
  4. Transportation of various cargoes with the help of external suspension.

For several years of operation, the liner transported a huge amount of various cargoes. Most of the flights made are unique routes. For several decades of the development of the aviation industry, not a single airliner has been able to demonstrate such results.

"Mriya" was created using well-developed components and assemblies of the An-124 "Ruslan" aircraft

Specifications An-225

The aircraft model under consideration uses six turbojet engines. Each engine has two separate circuits and weighs over four tons. The dimensions of the cargo compartment deserve special attention: 43x6.4x4.4 meters. In order to increase the carrying capacity of the vehicle, special materials were used to improve the tightness of the cargo compartment. Above the cargo compartment is a compartment designed to transport people accompanying the cargo. This compartment can accommodate up to eighty-eight people.

Many people are interested in the question of how much the Mriya plane weighs. The mass of this giant is two hundred and fifty tons. A full load of the liner increases this mark to six hundred and forty tons. The wingspan of this giant is eighty-eight and a half meters. The average speed of movement in the air is about eight hundred and fifty kilometers per hour. Carrying on board about two hundred tons of various cargo, the liner is able to cover a distance of four thousand kilometers. The lack of cargo allows you to increase this figure to fifteen and a half thousand kilometers.

The security system of this aircraft deserves special attention. All control systems have at least four duplicates. On the outer part of the fuselage there is a special device for securing bulky cargo. It was these mounts that were used during the transportation of the units that make up the Buran rocket.

Quite often you can hear the question of which plane is larger: Mriya or Ruslan. As mentioned above, the An-124 Ruslan liner was the basis for the development of Mriya. The created liner surpasses its "progenitor" in almost all respects. This aircraft has a longer fuselage and large quantity landing gear.

Comparison of An-124 and An-225

An-225 and An-124 have the same transverse dimensions. Despite this, the fuselage of the Mriya is significantly longer compared to the length of the Ruslan. When creating the wings of a transport ship, the same technologies were used as in previous models. However, in the case of the Mriya, additional sections were used, which made it possible to increase the total area and size of the wings. The Ruslan aircraft has five landing gear. On the An-225 liner, two additional racks are installed.

Being engaged in the development of a new project, the designers completely changed the look of the cargo compartment and equipped the new liner with two additional engines. In addition to all of the above, the new liner has more advanced flight characteristics. It is this factor that explains the fact that the Mriya aircraft was used to solve those tasks that Ruslan could not cope with.

These heavyweights are true symbols of the Soviet era. To date, such aircraft are not produced. This fact is explained by the fact that the construction of these models requires enormous financial investments and attraction of foreign experts. Based on all of the above, we can conclude that the Mriya aircraft is much better and larger than its "progenitor". Despite this, Ruslan is considered the largest transport vessel put into mass production. This liner also uses a hanging attachment system, which can significantly speed up the loading process.

The fuselage of "Mriya" has the same transverse dimensions as the An-124, but longer than it, the wingspan and area have increased

Advantages of "Mriya"

When the designers completed all flight tests, the urgent need to use this heavyweight had already disappeared. The aircraft was fully loaded only once, before the exhibition at the Paris Air Show. For several years of its existence, this aircraft has become a multiple champion. This airliner was the first cargo ship that could carry one hundred and fifty-seven tons of various cargo. In the year two thousand and nine, this liner broke its own record by lifting one hundred and eighty tons of cargo into the sky.

The transport vessel in question has set more than two hundred world records. This airliner has the following advantages:

  1. The possibility of transporting cargo, with a total weight of more than two hundred and fifty tons. The cabin of this "giant" can accommodate about fifty cars.
  2. The possibility of transporting cargo weighing up to two hundred thousand kilograms on inland routes.
  3. The possibility of transporting cargo weighing up to one hundred and fifty thousand kilograms on intercontinental routes.
  4. The possibility of attaching up to two hundred thousand different cargoes to the fuselage of the aircraft.

The fate of the transport ship

Employees of the design bureau assembled several models of the An-225 airliner at the same time. However, the engineers managed to complete only one aircraft. The second model is seventy percent ready and is in the warehouse of the design bureau. This project can be completed with sponsorship. However, not all investors can afford such large investments.

The Mriya aircraft was used for only a few years. After the recognition of the independence of Ukraine, the transport ship was dismantled for spare parts, and its main components were used to repair the An-124. In the year 2000, the Ukrainian authorities decided to resume this project. The aircraft was reassembled and put into operation by Antonov Airlines. To date, this vessel is used as freight transport . The second model will be completed together with Chinese engineers, who will receive it for temporary use.

The An-225 "Mriya" aircraft was originally created for the needs of the Soviet space industry

Conclusion

In this article, we examined the question of how the An-225 aircraft looks like, technical characteristics and its history. This liner, created three decades ago, is truly unique and has no analogues. None of the modern cargo airliners is capable of breaking the records belonging to this vessel.

ATTENTION: a big request not to strongly plus this article, because the article is not written for the sake of rating, and even more so not for the sake of money, but simply at the request of modellers.

We have been doing radio-controlled modeling for several years. During this time, many successful models were made, among which the Yak-40 became the first semi-copy project. It was followed by An-22 "Antey", MiG-29 (with pusher propellers), Yak-12, An-2, Il-96-300.

The size of the models grew and grew, and then the idea arose to make a very large aircraft weighing under 10 kg. Because practice has shown that large models fly much more stable, and they look more spear in the sky. The choice fell on Mriya.

And so that the span is at least 4 meters and the weight is under 12-14 kg. By tradition, we make all our turbine aircraft on propeller thrust. The explanation is simple - it's cheap and cheerful. 6 powerful impellers for "Mriya" we simply would not pull financially.

And they didn’t think about building materials for a long time - the set is standard: 4 mm ceiling, 50 cm wooden rulers, plywood and a metal pipe for the wing.

The main forum thread is located here:

Stabilizer.

Made collapsible - side vertical keels are removed. Mini-servos are used in the keels, standard in all other places. In addition, there are flashing LEDs on the stabilizer. It is attached to the fuselage with four bolts. The stabilizer assembly weighs exactly 1 kg.

It is made collapsible into two parts, the tail section is removed immediately after the landing gear. The fuselage used 46 frames for a more accurate repetition of the shape. For reinforcement, rows of rulers are laid along the entire fuselage, on which the center section of the wing and landing gear rest.

There are several permanently lit LEDs in the bow.

Made unremovable. For each rack, a knee from the “bamboo” antenna of the R-105 radio station was used. I mounted all the racks on ordinary wooden boards, the racks are fastened between pairs of metal brackets, a regular bolt serves as a stopper when the springs are compressed.

The springs were too tight, so some were cut. The entire chassis block is removable.

The total weight of both structures is about 800 g.

A bolt sticks out in each rack, which goes up / down in the grooved groove of the piece of wood, it serves as both a travel limiter and a stopper from turning.

I would like retractable ones, but experience does not yet allow making such complex retracts.

Front struts without shock absorbers, both struts are rotated by one servo.

It is divided into 3 parts: center section and consoles.

The center section is made according to a knurled scheme - powerful plywood root ribs form a rigid box to which the wing consoles are attached. In each console, the main ribs are made of plywood. The turbines are integral with these ribs to simplify the design. The main spar is made of a wooden bar (cashing). The big problem was the choice of a metal pipe to reinforce the wing. At first they planned to put a 16 mm pipe, but then we were convinced to put a thicker one. As a result, they put a pipe 20 mm in diameter from the baguette cornice. The pipe comes out of each console and is bolted to the center section from the inside.

The flaps in the wing are divided into 2 parts, each is controlled by its own servo. The aileron is 2 times larger than the original.

The wingtips are equipped with permanently lit LEDs. In the middle part of the wing, permanently lit white LEDs are also installed.

Initially, 6 identical motors were delivered

Turnigy G10 Brushless Outrunner 1200kv

with screws

MasterAirscrew 11x6

But later two root motors were replaced with more powerful ones.

with screws

The receiver and servos are powered by a separate NiMh 1300 mah 4.8 V battery.

received weight.

The assembled model exceeded all calculated data and amounted to as much as 18500 grams.

Tests.

They brought him to the field with the aim of just running in on the ground. Collected for about an hour in the late afternoon. The weather was, as expected - very windy. After a couple of runs, we still decided to take off, as it is very difficult to organize transportation and it is not known when we will come to the field again.

We waited a bit for the wind to subside, but on the contrary, it only intensified. In the end, the interest to see him in the sky overcame and decided to take off. We prepared for a very long takeoff, but the takeoff was about 6 meters and the plane, unexpectedly for us, easily soared into the air. It immediately became clear that the centering was very backward, but this did not prevent us from flying off normally for the entire flight. In the air, the plane absolutely does not feel the wind, it rulitsya very easily. When passing over the runway, it became clear that it would be very difficult to land him - he almost did not lower his nose, so on landing, in order to somehow lower his nose, he simply had to turn off all the engines, but even after that he slipped a lot.

To align the alignment began to move the batteries forward. On the second flight, the situation improved a little, but the balance was still back. To improve safety, the propellers were put an inch smaller on the outer engines so as not to cling to the asphalt with them.

For the third flight, all the batteries were moved as far forward as possible (to the very beginning of the center section) and 500 grams of iron had to be put in the nose. As a result, the total weight of the aircraft became around 19 kg. On the third flight, the plane finally flew as it should, very evenly and smoothly, but out of habit, "landing on myself" I had to run a little at the end.

The project is unfinished.

There are plans to make Buran for him with the possibility of separation in the air and self-landing. However, after the tests, we received a package with the DLE-30cc ICE, under which the Yak-50 is currently being built, and interest has sharply switched to it, so we will do Buran a little later.

The total cost of the project, including building materials, was approximately $1,000, which means that the aircraft turned out to be quite expensive, but quite tolerable.

Good afternoon, dear colleagues! I present to you my long-term construction - the model of the An-225 Mriya aircraft. Having in my collection the An-124 Ruslan, An-22 Antey and S-5 Galaxy models, I naturally thought that the largest heavy truck, the An-225 Mriya, was missing. Spending Nth quantity time on modeling sites, I found out that not a single manufacturer produces Mriya (although the A-model declared it in its catalogs). After a little reflection on how and what I would do, I decided that Ruslan's model would become the basis for it. After that, I bought two sets of An-124 Ruslan in 1/144 scale from Revell. Still, I think that having two sets of parts, the construction will go faster.
To begin with, I found drawings of the aircraft on the net. Familiar programmers, using the CorelDRAW program, transferred all this economy to a scale of 1/144. I think that this is important and necessary in the work, because it allows more or less control over the dimensions of the model and maintain the angles of the wings, stabilizers and keels. And now, the actual construction itself:
To increase the length of the fuselage, one insert was made in the area of the center section, and the fuselages of both Ruslans were cut off at different lengths. In front of the center section and behind it. By connecting one part of the fuselage to another, the desired length was achieved. A slight difference in the profiles was filled with a two-component Tamiya putty and Body-soft auto putty (what a smelly and vile muck!!!).
The root insert of the wings was made from the wings of one set of Ruslan (the remaining cut off part of the wings went to the manufacture of stabilizers). I made the wings from another set exactly with the wings that I attached to the root inserts.
I finalized the niches of the main chassis, adding two niches on each side, as well as the racks themselves, also adding two racks from the second set, thereby assembling a seven-rack structure. I did the same with the doors of the main landing gear niches. The front landing gear doors were made from photo-etched scraps.
Given that the weight of the model was unknown (but in any case it was assumed to be quite considerable), I decided to strengthen all the landing gear with sewing needles.
After the manufacture of the root inserts, the trimmed remains of the wings remained, and stabilizers were made from them. With the help of superglue and a two-component putty, I connected the stabilizers to each other, strengthened them and gave them a V-shape, and at the same time, removed all the jointing.
Keely made from two 3 mm sheets of PVC plastic glued together.
I formed the geometry of the tail section of the fuselage, root inserts and center section with two-component and auto-fillers, fashioned the tail fairing.
From epoxy Tamiya putty, I made fairings for locks for external fastening of goods (well, or what are they called correctly? bubbles, in short). From all the same Tamiya putty, he formed the ends of the keels (thorns). It took a very long time to process them to give the desired shape! In the area of the center section, under the root inserts, I made additional air intakes for refrigerators. I would like to note that in the process of work I had to clean something up all the time, putty cracks, grind and putty again and grind again. At the very beginning of the story, I forgot to indicate that, again due to the unknown final weight of the model, I loaded the nose well. At the same time, he used fishing lead sinkers, which he installed on plastic platforms specially glued in the cargo compartment. Total weight cargo - about 110 grams.
I slightly modified the engine pylons (especially the 3rd and 4th ones) by giving them the desired shape and method of attachment to the wings.
Headlights and beacons from Elf, simulated hydraulics on the landing gear with foil, made antennas from scraps of photo-etched.
Painted acrylic paints TAMIYA, Mr.Hobby and Alcad lacquers nitro enamel. Varnish, also TAMIYA. Decals were made to order, and also used from Ruslan's kit and other models (mostly every little thing and technical equipment). Migovskaya and Tamievskaya wash. I decided to highlight the stitching mainly with a simple pencil. He applied some traces of exploitation, stained the belly with Tamiya pigments. I had to tinker with the navigation lights a bit (in the sense that I had to grind and glue them pretty well). Several coats of semi-matt Tamiya lacquer.
That's basically it. This is how it turned out to be washed down, almost two years long ... In the process of work, of course, I also collected other models, and I worked on Mriya during the hours of creative inspiration. Already now, analyzing the assembly, I thought to myself that I would have done some things a little differently. The model came out, of course, not without jambs, but in principle, I think that it’s completely nothing. If anyone is interested, you can see the construction in more detail here:
http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_54792_start_0.html
In general, I think that manufacturers should pay attention to this aircraft. Because the work would be very interesting. I wish you all a pleasant viewing!
