Fabric paint. Painting on fabric with acrylic paints

The company "TAIR" offers two types of thinners for acrylic paints: a special compound for thinning acrylic paints for painting on fabric, and a universal glossy thinner.

Thinners for acrylic paints are translucent, water-borne liquids with a slightly pronounced low odor. Acrylic dispersion is used as the basis for the manufacture.

To dilute acrylic paints while maintaining the brightness of the color, it is a special thinner that is used. Thanks to this composition, it is possible to improve the glossy sheen of the paint, increase transparency, preventing depletion of the paint layer.

The use of thinners does not affect the viscosity of the paints, but slightly increase the time required for the drying of the paint layer.

Mode of application:

The required amount of thinner is added to the paint and mixed with a brush for a homogeneous state. It is possible to apply thinner over the dried paint layer instead of a top coat. After complete drying, the thinner acquires water resistance and becomes completely irreversible.

Thinners for oil paints

Thinners for use in oil painting are a whole group of different compositions. This includes means for diluting oil paints and embossed pastes. Also, thinners can be used to wash brushes and other tools, wash off paints from various surfaces.

Thinners have a high degree of permeability through even the smallest cracks, so they should be used with great care. Nevertheless, with the help of these compositions, it is possible to achieve hardening of the paint layer due to the penetration of compacted oils both deep into the paint layer and into the primer.

Excess thinner in oil paint reduces the amount of binder in the final mixture, which contributes to the deterioration of the quality of the paint layer. The addition of thinner will lighten many paints, but the color returns when the paint dries and the volatile compounds of the thinner evaporate.

Composition of thinners by numbers:

No. 1 - filtered and dehydrated white spirit and turpentine in the mixture;

No. 2 - dehydrated filtered white spirit;

No. 3 - white spirit;

No. 4 - dehydrated filtered pinene.

Thinner paste for artistic paints

The diluent paste is a rather thick mixture similar to the composition of acrylic paints, but without pigments. A thinner paste can be used to reduce the consumption of paints, this is usually required when working with large surfaces. This type of thinner is used for acrylic paints, gouache and tempera paints, while the coloring power is somewhat reduced and the color saturation is reduced.

You can use a bulk thinner paste as a base for making paints according to your own recipes, for this you need to add tinting compounds or special pigment pastes to the thinner.

Also, acrylic thinner can be used as a preliminary preparation of substrates before priming, or as an independent glazing primer.

Adding a thinner paste to gouache reduces the water solubility of gouache paint, improves adhesive properties and significantly increases resistance to abrasion. If necessary, the diluent paste can be used as an adhesive for paper and cardboard, fabric, wood and other similar materials.

Acrylic thinner paste has a mild specific odor, which disappears after the composition dries. When added to paints, it does not whiten them, after drying it acquires water resistance and mechanical strength, the layer of the dried thinner is a translucent colorless coating. The paste mixes well with acrylic, tempera and gouache paints, adheres well to clean and dry fat-free substrates, dries quickly.

The consumption of thinner paste depends on the desired result, in some cases up to four parts of thinner are used for one part of paint. It is recommended to work with acrylic paste at a temperature not lower than + 5 °C. Used tools should be washed with water immediately after completion of work.

Gum turpentine

Turpentine is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly terpene - a yellowish or colorless transparent liquid with a pronounced pine odor.

Turpentine is used as a thinner for oil, penta-oil and alkyd paints, varnishes, fatty oils. You can use turpentine for washing brushes, containers, palettes.

Precautions must be taken when using turpentine as this substance is potentially hazardous.

Do not work with turpentine in the vicinity of open flames, it is flammable!

It is necessary to work in a ventilated area due to the high content of volatile substances in the composition of turpentine.

After work, wash your hands with soap and plenty of water. Turpentine should be stored in places inaccessible to children.

Hello.

More than once I read in the works of master craftsmen that a lot of paint goes to work, and for example acrylic (my favorite) is not very cheap.

I recently discovered a wonderful thing - Volumetric Paste (acrylic paint thinner), which helps a lot to save on paint.

Sharing official information:

Bulk paste (acrylic paint thinner) TAIR
Package: plastic jar
Volume: 250ml
Producing country: Russia

from famous Russian manufacturer TAIR is a thick, water-borne acrylic paste that has the properties of acrylic paints, but does not contain pigments. Bulk paste (acrylic paint thinner) designed to reduce the consumption of art paints - acrylic, tempera and gouache - when working with them on large surfaces. Bulk paste (acrylic paint thinner) used as a primer composition, preliminary or independent, used without any prior preparation. The technique of application is similar to that used for conventional primers on a synthetic binder.

To dilute acrylic or other water-borne paints (gouache, tempera, etc.) One to three or four volumes of paste is spent on one volume of paint until the necessary paint consistency and color brightness are reached.

Advantages of bulk paste (acrylic paint thinner) TAIR:
1. when mixed with water-borne paints - acrylic, tempera, gouache - does not change their properties, slightly reducing the tone saturation and coloring ability;
2. allows you to paint large surfaces using a limited amount of paint;
3. can serve as a base for self-preparation of paints by mixing with pigment pastes or tinting compositions;
4. suitable for pre-priming various substrates in order to reduce soil consumption;
5. can be used alone as a glazing primer;
6. when added to gouache paints, it increases the resistance of the latter to abrasion, improves adhesion to various surfaces and reduces water solubility;
7. Can be used as an adhesive for paper, wood, fabric, etc.

Properties and characteristics bulk paste (acrylic paint thinner) TAIR
1. does not whiten paints;
2. viscous;
3. almost odorless;
4. dries by evaporation of water, acquiring water resistance;
5. forms an elastic mechanically strong surface;
6. after drying, forms a colorless translucent coating;
7. has good adhesion to dust and dirt free substrates;
8. quick dry;
9. mixes well with any water-based paints.

How to apply bulk paste (acrylic paint thinner) TAIR
1. Mix the paste with a coloring compound, gouache or a pigment previously ground in a small amount of water.
2. After finishing work, wash the working tools with water.

My impressions: this is SUPER!!! Paint takes 4 times less, with virtually no loss of color, the quality does not deteriorate. For mixing paints or adding color - a miracle! Glass can be matted with paste (http://stranamasterov.ru/node/325252), if the glass is colored (a bottle for example), then the color is not lost, it just becomes matte. Periodically I use paste instead of soil (if a thin layer of soil is needed) or I fix the soil with it.

I use acrylic primer from the same company (it is thicker than paste and not at all transparent), it lays down easily, dries quickly. In the same packaging.

These jars cost about 100 rubles in total.

Maybe for someone this is not news, but I hope that the material will be useful to someone.

What girl doesn't dream of a budget update to her wardrobe? And even better if this update is original and unique. This is where fabric paint comes to the rescue. If you know how to draw, it will be easy to create bright and special wardrobe or interior items from boring monochromatic things.

How fabrics are painted

A fairly large number of different technologies are used for painting fabrics. Fabric painting techniques include batik, shibori, kokechi, knot technique, and free painting. Batik technique has two variants - cold and hot. hot way batik is different in that instead of a special substance, molten wax is used to reserve the pattern, which is applied special tool. In the knotting technique, the fabric is tied in knots and boiled in a dye solution. The shibori technique is similar to knotting, but differs in that the fabric is folded in a certain way, and not tied. It is somewhat similar to origami. And the koketi technique involves the use of stencils.

Free painting technique

Free painting allows you to create completely unique things. It is this technique that helps to reveal all artistic talents. It can be performed both on wet material and on a dry web.

Painting fabrics with acrylic paints is most often done at home. They are easy to attach and easy to apply. The material is better to use dense. It can be leather, suede or thick textiles, dark or bright colors. acrylic paint for fabrics can be applied with brushes, airbrush, roller or stamps.

What are the colors

The quality of your drawing, as well as the quality of the entire product as a whole, will largely depend on whether the paint for the fabric is chosen correctly. To ensure that the image printed on the fabric does not wash off or fade, the paint should be fixed with an iron or steam.

Steam fixing requires quite expensive equipment, so at home they use paint that is fixed with an iron. Separately, there are paints for silk, they are water-based and, unlike textiles, liquid. These paints spread too easily. That is why before using them, you should circle the drawing with a special contour that does not let the paint through.

Textile paint is applied in a dense layer and does not require the use of special contours, since it does not spread.

Steam curing paints

Fabric paint that requires steam fixing is professional. And it would be more correct to say that this is not paint, but a dye. It penetrates deep into the fabric fibers and changes their color without affecting the texture or other characteristics of the fabric being dyed. In other words, if you painted a thin and soft canvas, then at the end of the work it remains the same. The undoubted advantage is the fact that before steaming, you can change or correct the pattern. This is very convenient for beginners, as it allows you to correct the mistake. If you want to get a certain color in your work, then remember that when it dries, the paint fades, but after steaming it regains brightness, and its contrast becomes more expressive. Such paints are usually used for natural fabrics. They can be mixed and diluted with water. Among the budget options for such dyes, one can note the paints of the Russian manufacturer Batik-Hobby.

Iron-on paints

The acrylic paint for fabrics is fixed with an iron. She's a polymer. Its essence lies in the enveloping of tissue fibers. This leads to compaction of the dyed fabric and loss of elasticity. When painting on fabric with acrylic paints, you can dilute them with water, but this will significantly reduce the degree of adhesion of it to the fibers. Also, these paints can be mixed with each other. But the resulting shades often have a dirty look.

They also degrade over long periods of time. An important feature is that acrylic paint for fabric is indelible after it dries. Also, these paints have a strong fluidity and can flow where it should not. Although their fluidity is significantly reduced if one layer is applied on top of another. This allows you to make beautiful drawings.

Paint for dyeing fabrics from different manufacturers

The paints of the Russian manufacturer "Batik-Acrylic" are more budgetary, but they change the stiffness of the fabrics too much. A more gentle option for the canvas would be paints from foreign manufacturers. All of them are marked "Silk" and are used for silk painting. If you find the mark "Textile" on the paint, then this indicates that these materials are intended for dense fabrics. For screen painting, Decola paints from a Russian manufacturer are well suited. All of the above options are fixed on the fabric by ironing. The temperature and duration of the procedure will depend largely on the type of tissue.

Use of improvised materials

Painting on fabric with acrylic paints can be done even by someone who does not know how to draw at all. You can decorate your things or interior items with the help of simple geometric shapes. They can be applied with stamps or a brush. To make the stripes or edges of the figures smooth, use ordinary tape or electrical tape.

Using this technique, you can create original pillows with geometric patterns or decorate, for example, a kitchen towel.

To make stripes, take sticky tape and stick it on, spacing the same or different distances between the tapes. Fill in these gaps with your chosen colors. After the paint has dried, peel off the adhesive tape.

How to decorate a T-shirt

To paint a T-shirt with acrylic paints, you must first lay a thick cardboard between the front and back of it. This should be done so that the paint does not print on the side of the back during drawing. In addition, the fabric should be fixed so that it does not move out during operation. Start by transferring the design to the fabric. After the drawing is transferred, proceed to coloring.

If the paint is too thick, then it should be diluted. You can use plain water, but the paint diluted in this way does not last too long. Therefore, acrylic paints should be diluted with a special thinner. The better the fabric is saturated with paint, the longer the pattern will last. After the work with paints is finished, you need to leave the product to dry for a day. Then iron the stained area with an iron through cotton fabric for five minutes. The temperature regime must correspond to the fabric. You can wash the product after forty-eight hours.

How to care for a painted product

Despite the fact that the paint for the fabric is indelible, you should follow certain rules in the care of dyed things. Any products that have been painted with acrylics must be washed in accordance with temperature regime not exceeding forty degrees. It is better to wash and wring out the product by hand. But if you still prefer a washing machine, then set the delicate wash mode and do not use intensive spinning. Also, do not use brushes and bleaching preparations. In the case of dyeing fabrics using the batik technique, care is somewhat simpler. The temperature in this case should be chosen based on the type of tissue.

If you follow all the rules when working with paints, as well as fulfill all the conditions for caring for painted things, then such products will serve you for a long time. The better the paints and the better they are matched to the type of fabric, the more fun and easier it is to draw. Since the color palette is simply huge, you can create completely unique things using a large number shades.
