Winsor and Newton watercolors. My watercolor beauty! winsor & newton professional camping kit tests

Hey! I decided to tell watercolor lovers about the Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor set with 12 half-cuvettes!

Actually, this set was given to me for another New Year, but I decided to get into it with my paws and destroy the beauty of the wrappers just now. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take a picture of it in its original form! First impressions: very cute, but so small (approximately 6.5x13x3.5 cm)! To be honest, that’s why I didn’t use it: well, what can you draw a decent one with the help of such a malipuska?!!! In the photo next to him is an A5 sketchbook

The “spring panic before summer” made me open it, I suddenly realized that it was absolutely !!! I don’t know how to do quick sketches, but I want to capture so much in my short free minutes. I immediately begin to remember how last summer I was picking with clover and wild rose, while other plants that were inaccessible in winter were flowering, and drawing only from a photo is not as cool as with the participation of nature. For example, last year I made sketches of lilies of the valley, even such dumb drawings later helped a lot when drawing a full-fledged drawing.
By the way, it is one of the best-selling ones on my shutter (if you are interested, I can write how I am doing there, though I only scraped up the withdrawal in 5 months, so the story is rather sad). At the end of the 2nd year of the decree, I felt my interest in the image of buildings and structures returning (apparently, the body is preparing to go to work), i.e. I really want to draw city sketches! In short, I want to draw so many things that it becomes a problem. People have a fear of a blank slate, but for me, if by some miracle they suddenly take my child for an hour, I don’t know what to grab onto!) It was decided to correct myself with this set. I left a few original flowers in it (there are wrappers in the photo) and added BN and Winsor's ceruleum to the empty cuvettes.
The filling is temporary, as I draw, I will change it. By the way, I stuffed the 13th cuvette there. Now I decide what to pour-cadmium orange or purple. Both can be mixed, of course, but if this is a quick sketch, you want to draw right away, and not dangle in batches. There is a ring on the back of the box to make it easy to hold. The flask is very small, on the other hand, this tiny brush does not pick up a lot of paint, so the water almost does not get dirty.
So far I have made two very quick sketches (without using additional materials): an Italian woman with a crooked face and a landscape.
I tried to fill the sky with a sponge, it didn’t work out very well, so at first I spread the paint over the sheet with a brush, and then smoothed it with a sponge! I would take a bottle of water to this set (if there is no tap, river, puddle nearby!) And a bigger brush, I once broke a calligraphic one, I can carry a piece. My verdict: pampering, of course, but pleasant!

For a long time I wanted to try ordering something from Jacksons, and then, inspired by all sorts of foreign books on watercolors and the Technical Notebook marathon, I decided to grab a few tubes of Winsor & Newton Professional. Well, I won’t be me if I don’t order some book here, but about it next time. I made an order on July 9, he came to me on July 17, in my opinion, pretty quickly.

In addition to WN, I grabbed Mijello Shell Pink, I really wanted to get this color from ShinHan, but it was out of stock. I have already dealt with Mijello and was satisfied, so I decided that such a replacement would not upset me. The color is pleasant, dense, I specially took it for drawing roses. In pursuit of this paint, I took ShinHan Titanium White, I'll try to mix something similar with them.

Before that, in addition to the well-known White Nights, I tried Winsor & Newton watercolors from the Cotman series and, in principle, I liked the paints and I continue to use many of them to this day, yes, some colors are a bit “soapy”, but let’s remember the Cobalt Blue at the Neva palette. Then I watched the broadcast about Winsor & Newton, which was conducted by the girls from watercolorlab and found out that it turns out that the Cotman series, which I have been successfully using all this time, is simply terrible and you can’t draw with it in any case, but the professional series is simply divine. In general, needless to say, here I was fired up with the desire to try these magical paints.
The first paint tested was cobalt violet. I ordered it when I saw it in Anna Mason's book, there was a coloring there, and plus, I saw what kind of mixtures were obtained with it. To say that I am disappointed is to say nothing. Firstly, the color is strikingly different from what I saw in the book and on the drawings on the Internet, it personally reminds me of such a children's Chinese watercolor. Secondly, it would be nice to have a color, so I have never seen a more “soapy” color at all, if you take it thicker, then lumps of paint are collected on the brush, which then somehow crawl along the paper in a soapy way. At the same time, even though I didn’t try, I didn’t get an even fill, on the painting you can see how I drove the paint over the paper. I don’t know how to make any mixtures with this paint, especially if you take it from a cuvette, if you can’t take it from a tube.

Next is Viridian, the one on the PG18 pigment, I dreamed about him for a long time. So what? The color is beautiful, I haven’t tried it in mixtures yet, and how to try something, if again it’s soap-soap. Next to it is Turquoise Cobalt (Cobalt turquoise light), here it pleased me, it picks up well on the brush, it lays flat on paper and is so slightly opaque, I will try it in mixtures.

I also liked Opera rose, a good bright color, I will use it for flowers in mixtures.

I ordered another paint out of great curiosity after posting on the watercolorlab instagram account and drawing from the book by Wendy Tate. I needed Quinacridone gold and it was from Winsor&Newton. The consistency is a little soapy, but much better than purple cobalt, in color, in my opinion, something in between our Indian golden and Indian yellow from the Neva palette and a little colder. By the way, you can try mixing a similar color on the basis of Indian yellow. I will try to use this paint in a mixture with indigo and lemon cadmium.

Well, the icing on the cake of my order was Lunar Black by Daniel Smith. I am delighted with him, he instantly granulates and with this paint you can be the god of granulation.

What can I say about the paints I've tried. Mijello and Daniel Smith fully met my expectations. I haven't tried the white from ShinHan yet, but I think everything will not be so bad there either. But from Winsor & Newton watercolors I have mixed feelings, to be honest, I expected more. Yes, I knew that the watercolor of this brand is transparent, I was aware that you can’t type it thickly like the Nevskaya Palitra, but damn it, I’m very disappointed with the soapy purple cobalt, and for some wild money for a small tube. I will probably still order Winsor&Newton watercolors, but most likely something from the Cotman series, which I usually use.
I also want to try Van Gogh, but, unfortunately, they don’t sell it at Jacksons, and in our stores the prices bite.

Are you going to make a gift to an artist you know, but don't know what to choose? Or do you paint yourself and are looking for high-quality paints? In any case, Winsor Newton watercolor will be an excellent option for both an experienced painter and an aspiring artist.

The professional line includes more than a hundred colors. In the production process, a well-known English company uses high-quality and environmentally friendly materials, resulting in light-resistant, durable and reliable paints that do not lose their aesthetic properties over time. Pictures made with their help keep a presentable appearance and do not fade even after several decades.

And again the heading "Creative gurus". Today we will talk about the father of pop art, who in many ways shaped the face of contemporary art - about Andy Warhol. Like any creative person, Warhol was extremely versatile: producer, musician, fashion designer, director, creator of Interview magazine and, of course, the founder of the famous Factory, where his work was replicated.
