How to sew EVA mats?

Pattern preparation

First of all, ready-made pattern templates are selected from the electronic database for a specific make and model of a car. If there are no patterns in the database, then you need to take the dimensions from the real car. For these purposes, use a sheet of A1 paper and a marker. The paper is placed at the location of the rug in the passenger compartment and the contours of the floor are marked with a felt-tip pen. This method of manufacturing patterns is recognized as the most suitable and accurate. Since the patterns are made in full accordance with the characteristics of the interior of each car. If there are patterns in electronic form, they are simply printed on a printer for large-format printing.

cutting

A sheet of EVA material, in the required color, is placed on the cutting table with the smooth side up, honeycomb down. A pattern is applied on top, the contours are outlined with a white marker. When the entire set of patterns is transferred to the EVA sheet, you can start cutting out future car mats. Cutting must be at a right angle. This can be done with a cutting disc knife.

Next, proceed to the edging of the already cut blanks from the EVA sheet. The edging gives the rugs a finished look and protects the cut points from mechanical stress. It is better to start edging from the bottom of the rug, smooth side up. As an edging, a belt sling made of polypropylene or similar materials is usually used. The optimal width of the tape is 30 mm, while the edging, as a rule, is performed in 2 additions.

Mounting installation

EVA mats can be fastened with Velcro, universal metal eyelets or plastic hooks. Also, the mats can be fixed with the help of standard fasteners provided in the car interior. If Velcro is sewn on a sewing machine, then a special press will be required to install the eyelets to install metal fittings.

The model of the binder for sewing EVA mats must be selected based on the specific width of the mat. To do this, the size of the opener of the binder should approximately correspond to the width of the mat to be bound. After you have decided on the model, you must select the appropriate size, namely the width of the entrance. The edging is done in 2 additions. The tilters themselves, according to the type of installation, can be mortise or overhead. Plunge binders lay down the binding better on turns, but take time to change the needle plate. Universal overlay binders are quickly installed on a standard needle plate, but the quality of the edging in a curve is slightly inferior to the mortise binder. Optimum choice of mortise binder: Khsew KHF18. The optimal choice of overlay binder: Khsew KHF66. If your mat is 10mm or more wide, then you will most likely need to produce a custom-made edger. cutting equipment

Cutting EVA sheets is best done with a rotary cutter with a blade diameter of 100 or 110 mm. This type of knife allows you to easily cut straight and curved lines. The optimal choice of cutting knife: Minerva RSD-100. Alternative options: Minerva RSD-110, Dayang RSD-100.

Press

Press for metal fittings can be selected from mechanical or electrical models. If you plan to make custom car mats, a hand press will probably suffice. If mass production is planned, then a more productive electric press is better suited for these tasks.
