I deepened the bulbs along the “shoulders”, like home bulbs (hypeastrum, clivia, etc.), and not like in the open ground “to the third depth of the bulb”. It turned out 18 pots.

Now it was necessary to provide the plantings with a distillation temperature of no higher than 5 degrees for at least two months. The right temperature is in our refrigerators (not freezers). That's just 18 pots, even small ones, in the refrigerator would be very stressful for my family. In our five-story brick building, we owned a closet in the basement, in which we stored potatoes in the winter. True, it was not stored there very well, it sprouted already in February. That's where I decided to arrange a refrigerator.

I put the pots in a cardboard box, dragged them into the basement. And ... safely forgot.

I already remembered February 18 - I remembered this date well, because later it became the starting point. She got alarmed and ran dragged the box from the basement. I opened the box - 5-7 cm tufts of pale green leaves stuck out of all the bulbs.

Three windows of my apartment faced north, one faced south. Since I did not yet know how the hyacinths would react to the light, at first I put the pots on the windowsills of the northern windows, later (after 3 days) I moved several pots to the southern one.

On the northern windows, the arrows of the peduncles leaned towards the light, so in order to align them, it was necessary to turn the pots from time to time. But the inflorescences turned out to be fluffy, compact. On the southern window, hyacinths bloomed earlier, the arrows did not bend, but the peduncles themselves began to quickly stretch, the distances between individual flowers increased, which violated the compactness of the inflorescence and did not look very beautiful. I quickly moved them to the north.

Later, I learned to regulate the onset of flowering by changing the temperature (I opened or closed the window). But the date, February 18, turned out to be optimal for the timing of exposing flowers to heat (15-18 degrees) to light (shadow side) so that they bloom by March 8.

I brought flowers to the store on March 6th. Enough for 15 minutes of trading, although I put a markup of 400% of the purchase price of the bulb.

The following year, I took up forcing deliberately. Stocked up with 300 bulbs of hyacinths, daffodils and muscariae (mouse hyacinths). I used plastic glasses for beer as pots, in which I pierced the bottoms. Muscaria (mouse hyacinths) need a temperature of forcing on the windowsill lower by 2-3 degrees, and they are driven out faster for several days. Daffodils are driven out longer than hyacinths and are more favorable to the sun.

The landing took me about 3 days. Again she stuffed the containers with bulbs into cardboard boxes and “forgotten” for the whole winter. Of course, on February 20, the flowers occupied all the horizontal planes on the furniture in my apartment, but in the end this inconvenience lasts only two weeks.

A markup of 400% was fine with me, but still the price of my "forcing" was 1.5 times lower than the Dutch one and excluded travel expenses. Flowers for March 8 are sold in full, without a trace. So you can imagine the benefits.

If it is not possible to purchase bulbs from wholesalers, then now there are sales in many stores, where prices are about the same as I indicated. True, wholesalers also begin seasonal discounts up to 40%.

By the way, special elite bulbs for forcing will appear on sale, their flowering is luxurious, but the price matches. I advise you to get by with simple varieties, in winter they look luxurious.

Even if you do not have your own store and have no desire to engage in trade, even if only two days before March 8, you can still agree with any flower shop on the implementation - they are unlikely to refuse, because there are no problems and no costs. Only in this case you will have to give up the price, but you will still win, especially if you distribute the flowers in small batches to different stores. Just make sure that the flowers upon delivery are still in the budding stage and they are given a place in the store cool enough from 5 to 15 degrees for a longer preservation of the presentation.

If there is no basement or cellar, but you want to try, then there is another way of heat treatment.

In the garden or in the summer cottage, dig holes in the fall for the boxes to be installed with a margin of 15-20 cm. Separately store dry earth for filling the holes. At the end of November, carry out planting work in containers, place them in boxes, which, in turn, should be placed in dug holes and covered with prepared soil, perhaps after covering the boxes with some kind of canvas to make it easier to get in February.

That's basically the whole idea, not very burdensome, but giving a certain annual income.

We were given, perhaps, the best place for trading that an entrepreneur could wish for: right at the main entrance to the Greenwich shopping center. Especially for our flower shop on wheels, the administration of the shopping center kindly allocated a parking space and, in general, coordinated this operation at their own peril and risk. Among ourselves, by the way, we gave her the code name "Green Tulip".

Personally, I don't like tulips. In general, I'm afraid of them. After all, it was in the tulip that Thumbelina was born. Well, and to everything else, flowers are a perishable commodity. We didn't have much time. Flowers had to be packed hard. Freezing them is one of the main risks in winter for this business. Then just to the dump. Among other things, I had to create a kind of signboard in a short time. I tried very hard to draw the way true street vendors do.

The goods were ready and carefully heated from the salon. Outdoor advertising has been mounted, the price has been determined - 66 rubles. I mentally put an hour and ten minutes on the dial. Go. I asked myself the questions “How to find a solution? What should be done?" I began to look for investments so that I could buy flowers and then sell them at a higher price. I found people who have a lot of money, but they are not interested in investing big money in such a risky business.

After several days of reflection, I met with my good friend - Cyril, I explained the situation to him, and together in the dining room we began to think about what to do.

It turned out that he just has an acquaintance Vadim, who has his own large holding. There are no accidents, I thought, and together we went to Vadim's office to negotiate.

Vadim turned out to be a kind person with an open soul. He let us use part of his office and loaned us money for working capital without further ado. And in an instant, we destroyed all the barriers that were previously insurmountable.

On March 4, we started our activities as Agrocomplex of Novosibirsk 😀 Then I placed additional ads and an incredible number of people began to call my phone, I redirected them all to the office.

A crowd of people began to gather near the office doors, we could no longer cope with all this flow of people.

Nerves were on edge. People came, demanded flowers, we could not keep up with all the promises. It was some kind of chaos.

The first time I celebrated my birthday was in the refrigerator of a cargo van: we spent most of the day loading flowers and the longest thing we had to do was cut the labels from the flowers, because it was impossible to let the wholesale buyers know where we get the flowers.

For several nights I could not sleep, I close my eyes, and the brain continues to think, before my eyes there are tulips and a van where they need to be loaded. Many times in my head there were thoughts to quit the whole idea and stop. But I did not do this, because the amount of 25,000 thousand rubles was constantly spinning in my head, this was my minimum goal.

This all continued until March 7, we fulfilled all the obligations that we assumed. However, the clients refused part of the flower, and before March 8, we had about 1600 tulips in our hands, not in the best shape and a pale lilac color that no one liked.

It turned out that, in fact, all these days we worked to earn money for these flowers, and now all our net profit hangs in them.

There were about 200 flowers left, which we then presented.
