Business with China in a small town. How to start a business with China: tips for entrepreneurs

In this material:

A business from China that is relevant in our time, the ideas of which are quite simple and accessible to everyone, can bring good profit to a novice entrepreneur.

China's market is vast, including many international firms with popular brands. Among the offered range you can always find the right product for sale.

Considering that business from China has long been at the peak of popularity, one should be aware of the futility of the pursuit of new products.

Having studied the market, it is worth identifying the products of the greatest demand and deal with them. You can turn to specialists who will not only conduct the necessary marketing research, but also create a business plan for a novice businessman.

The amount of profit received will directly depend on the direction of the business and the literacy of its implementation. In the first case, it will be important to choose exactly the field of activity in which there is at least some experience. In order for a business to initially become profitable, it is important not to forget about the uniqueness of the idea.

Supplier search

Having decided on the direction of activity, they begin to search for possible partners. The best option is to partner directly with the product manufacturer. This will help to avoid various markups from intermediaries.

Attention should be paid not only to the price characteristics of products, but also to their quality, as well as to the study of contracts and terms of delivery. If goods for children are purchased, then you need to check the availability of documents on laboratory tests for the composition of the products.

Entrepreneurs are interested in supplying products from China precisely because of the low cost of goods compared to domestic counterparts. A large selection of products is also a significant advantage in partnership with China. Production lines for small businesses from China are popular all over the world as an opportunity to save money not only when buying equipment, but also when renting it and then buying it back.

Business ideas with China

Interesting business ideas from China are a reason to start a profitable business. In order for a business from China to be truly profitable, it is necessary to single out one promising line among a huge range of products and start selling it. A good option for implementation would be to help newcomers in the development of the Chinese market. At first, you can make the minimum payment so that you can earn a reputation.

Business proposals from China are based on the simplest principle of buying/selling and do not require significant investments. Many ideas are quite profitable, and the price range for the products sold is set by the entrepreneur himself. In your city you can open:

  1. Branded shoe and clothing store. The main part of international companies producing branded items have located their branches in China, so the cost of popular brands has become lower. You can make good money on the difference in the price of the thing you buy and sell.
  2. Dropshipping store. By entering into a partnership agreement with a dropshipping company, you can make a profit on the difference between the market value of the goods and the cost of the manufacturer. This type of entrepreneurial activity is associated with low risks, but does not require significant investments. Such a scheme is useful for acquiring knowledge and experience in the field of business.
  3. Realization of goods by the piece. Profit is the difference between wholesale and piece sales. This method is used by almost all businessmen.
  4. Realization of gadgets and fashionable novelties. Interesting business ideas from China in this case can bring good profit. Indeed, in China, various phones and other devices are relatively inexpensive. Such a thing in Russia can be sold several times more expensive.

Ways to sell goods

There are several directions for the sale of Chinese goods. The best option would be to conduct 1-2 directions at once. The sale of goods may take place:

  • through an auction;
  • in the online store;
  • through social networks;
  • in a real store.

Despite the fact that many do not know about the auction method of selling, it works quite well. To start selling at any auction, just register on the site. A remarkable feature of such an auction is the possibility of selling goods all over the world.

An online store is a simple and easy way to sell a product, but it has many competitors. For this reason, you need to either acquire the necessary knowledge in this area to attract a large number of buyers, or seek help from a professional selling goods through Internet resources. In this case, you can not do without financial costs.

Social media is a popular place for bulk selling, but it's not always used the right way. Initially, it is supposed to create a group in a known network. Then there is an increase in the size of the group in order to advertise the product. The more interesting the product, the more likely it is to be promoted and sold.

An ordinary store can also be well advertised. To open your store, you need to initially register your own business, rent a room, purchase goods, hire workers - all this implies a considerable investment of effort and money. The method itself is associated with a high risk, it is better to use it only if you have a good initial capital.

China not only sells its own goods, but also purchases foreign goods for the population, as well as for the development of industry.

High-quality translation services, tourism organization, and various consultations are in great demand. Even in this area, you can always find new ideas.

Considering the possibility of big changes in business with China due to the economic crisis, for the best way out of the current situation, it is worth considering a number of observations:

  1. Price increases should be made simultaneously with competing firms.
  2. Slightly reduce discounts for wholesalers.
  3. Periodically track information on prices for the range of goods of interest.
  4. Assess the profitability of the business, taking into account the cost of delivery of goods and its customs clearance.
  5. Reduce storage costs by keeping stock to a minimum.

In order for the activity to be profitable, it is worth paying attention to the following components:

  • a sense of intuition that will help determine the most relevant product for the buyer;
  • business profitability analysis;
  • the optimal cost of products, beneficial to both the consumer and the seller;
  • bona fide suppliers.

Business from China is now very common and profitable. But this does not mean that all ideas are profitable. It’s not enough to come up with an idea, you still need to successfully implement the idea. To prevent the enterprise from being unprofitable, before starting to invest any finances, it is worthwhile to think carefully about all the options for developing the business, create a competent business plan, and only then decide whether it is worth investing in business proposals from China. Only a thorough study of all aspects will help to avoid unnecessary costs and loss of capital.

Several alternative ways to make money on Chinese goods

In addition to working as a reseller, there are several other ways to make a profit through the trade in Chinese goods. This is a group or collective purchase and the function of a manager of a large Chinese wholesale platform. This type of activity is called dropshipping, we already mentioned it at the beginning of the article. The second option is to return cashback from purchases already made for yourself or for resale.

Let's take a closer look at both of these methods.

Profitable dropshipping with China

Selling large quantities of goods without start-up capital and making a profit - is it possible?

The answer is yes!

Run your own online store and choose a dropshipping partner. By acting as an intermediary between a buyer and a large wholesale supplier, you will be able to fulfill your end of the contract in finding customers and getting an advance on the goods. After collecting applications and making an advance payment by buyers, you will only have to transfer part of the amount to the supplier. This concludes your participation in the sale procedure. The Chinese side will form and send the packages to your customers on their own. And the profit in the form of a trading margin will remain with you.

It is worth considering that if you have questions about tracking the order time, claims for quality or returning goods, it falls on the shoulders of the intermediary - that is, on you. You will need to resolve disputes with the sending party yourself. However, it must be recognized that threats are everywhere. The main thing is a reasonable ratio of risks and benefits in the chosen business.

Earnings on cashback from China

A fairly new opportunity to earn money on the return of part of the cost of goods through the cashback option is gaining wide popularity. Each Internet provider determines at its discretion the amount of interest that it can return for a purchase. This figure can range from 1 percent or more. On Aliexpress, cashback, for example, can reach 7%, and this, you see, is already quite a weighty argument in favor of such additional income!

It should be noted that there are some difficulties with cashback accrual. Basically, these are problems of a technical nature of the host. You need to properly organize the work and set up your browser, then the cashback will be credited within 10-15 minutes after the purchase.

Conclusion

Summing up all that has been said, the business on goods from China is an already established, stable market segment. It is gaining momentum every year due to the constant production of new interesting, inexpensive, high-quality things and well-organized sales.

There was a trust and loyalty of buyers to the Chinese suppliers. A convenient interface of Internet stocks, such as Aliexpress, allows you to make the right choice of products, focusing on ratings, user reviews and product photos.

Therefore, investing your strength and part of your savings in the business of selling goods from China is a perfectly reasonable idea. This is a good startup for those who want to try their hand at being an entrepreneur. Both beginners and experienced entrepreneurs often look towards China when developing their business. And this is not surprising, because China's trade with Russia is rapidly developing and this country provides a lot of opportunities in the development of its business. The organization of business cooperation with Chinese entrepreneurs is a separate area in which it is necessary to take into account the mentality, the rules for finding a supplier, and many other factors.

How to start working with China?

When establishing trade in goods from China, the entrepreneur must draw up an action plan. The steps for organizing trade with China for beginners are as follows:

This is almost a complete range of actions that an entrepreneur will need to perform in cooperation with a Chinese manufacturer.

An important role in organizing a successful business with the Middle Kingdom is played by knowledge of the business and basic cultural traditions of the Chinese, the legislation of this country.

We organize a business with its own specifics

Different lines of business require a different approach. If you are planning to organize a business selling Chinese goods. From this article you will learn recommendations for opening such a business.

For Chinese entrepreneurs, 2017 was a year of lower prices for imported raw materials, less economic pressure from the United States and, as a result, an increase in foreign trade. Only exports to Russia increased by 22%, and in general the growth was almost 26% compared to the previous year. Experts say that 2018 will be just as favorable for China, and therefore Russian entrepreneurs can expect new interesting products, convenient logistics schemes, good discounts and higher quality standards for Chinese products.

Pros and cons of buying from China

The main part of export transactions between Chinese and Russian businesses is the supply of equipment (about 60%) and small-scale wholesale trade in clothing and footwear, plastic products, furniture, leather goods, jewelry and toys (about 30%). Of course, similar products can be found in Russia, but often their cost is so high that the reseller does not have the opportunity to make that extra charge that will cover all pre-sale costs, and also make it possible to earn.

The average small-scale wholesale margin for the Russian manufactured goods group is about 30%, for the Chinese one - 200%.

It is obvious that any businessman who knows how to count money will invest in a scheme with Chinese supplies. But the Chinese export offer is attractive not only by the possibility of colossal markups.

Important advantages of implementing business ideas from China are:

  • a huge selection of relevant and innovative goods (such a number of new products as in China is not produced in any country in the world);
  • the ability to bargain with Chinese sellers to a very significant reduction in the initial cost;
  • convenient, fast and cheap logistics (dozens of consolidation warehouses operate in Russia today, and their number will only increase).

The weakest point of Russian-Chinese commercial schemes is the difficulty of translation. It is not uncommon for the parties to seem to have agreed on the same terms of the deal, but in fact the Chinese partner begins to fulfill its obligations with a significant deviation from the agreements. And only when the circumstances are clarified, it turns out that the Chinese kept silent about something or joked about something, while the Russians did not specify in a timely manner.

In order to avoid these problems at the first stages of organizing trade with Chinese suppliers, it is recommended to hire a reliable consulting agent for the first three to five transactions. He will teach you how to properly negotiate with the Chinese side and correctly fix the agreements on paper. The cost of the services of such an agent is about 10% of the transaction.

Business with China and laws

Any commercial activity between Russian and Chinese entrepreneurs must be regulated by an appropriate agreement drawn up in writing. Of course, if you order 100 watches on Aliexpress, pay for the goods through the payment system of the Internet resource and wait for the watch to arrive at your warehouse, you do not need to conclude any additional written contracts.

But if you contact a supplier or manufacturer directly, transfer money through a bank yourself and arrange delivery, then you cannot do without a written bilateral document sealed by both parties.

Do I need to pay customs duties for the import of goods purchased in Chinese online stores

Customs duty must be paid on deliveries worth from 1 thousand euros and more or weighing 31 kg or more. The billing period is a calendar month. These norms are established only for postal items to the address of individuals.

Accordingly, if an individual receives monthly parcels from China in the amount of up to 1,000 euros and up to 31 kg in his own name, he is exempted from paying import duties and taxes.

If the cargo is transported across the border by a legal entity or an individual entrepreneur, completely different customs rules apply to such an operation.

Legal entities (including small businesses and individual entrepreneurs), when importing goods into the customs territory of the Russian Federation, are required to pay duties, VAT, excise duties, as well as pay for customs clearance services.

The total cost of legalizing a consignment of goods from China is 45.15% of the declared contract price of the products.

After the product is legalized, it can be sold on the territory of Russia, with the payment of taxes according to the taxation system under which the entrepreneur works.

If you are just starting to work with China, you should not immediately get involved in commercial deliveries. Work for a few months as a private person, evaluate the prospects of the direction in which you work, and only then enter into commercial contracts. Moreover, it is not recommended for newcomers to the Chinese market to immediately invest more than 500 euros in business.

Ways to bypass the fee

As practical experience shows, attempts to save on customs payments can be very expensive and put an end to an entire entrepreneurial career. Therefore, if you decide to trade an actual product and make a markup of 150 - 200% of the cost, do not save 45% on paying all necessary duties. You run the risk of being left without goods, without money and with a damaged business reputation.

But if you have an adventurous spirit, you like to fool the system, and you do not want to share your earnings with anyone, then you can try to get around the payment of fees in the following ways:

  • agree with the supplier to underestimate the contract value of the goods in invoices (there is a risk of not receiving the goods, while claims for the return of the advance can only be made within the invoice, which you deliberately underestimated);
  • involve several partners in the business, in whose name to receive parcels, without exceeding the monetary and weight limit (1 thousand euros / 31 kg).

If you do not want to deal with duties, customs clearance and shipping at all, then the best option is to hire an intermediary who will look for you a good product in China and take care of its delivery. Intermediaries publish a full list of services and their cost on their websites. On average, cooperation costs 10% of the cost of the party.

How to start trading with Chinese suppliers

The main thing you need to get started is a great desire! A person who wants to do something is looking for all possible ways to realize his intention. He tries, he fails, he tries again and achieves his goals.

Who can do business with China

If we analyze the success stories of Russian entrepreneurs who have built a legal and profitable business with China, then most of them initially had a merchant instinct and an economic education.

Yes, they had already traded goods of Russian, European, American production and knew how to build relationships with suppliers. They simply entered another market with their skills, with a cheaper product and the possibility of a higher markup.

Therefore, if you are currently involved in the field of trade, working with Chinese suppliers will not be a novelty for you.

Those who understand the latest in the electronics market, spare parts, accessories for cars, as well as gadgets of various types and modifications, can earn good money.

There are also chances of success for those entrepreneurs who can anticipate fashion trends for future seasons.

At the stages of launching new products on the market and during their promotion, manufacturers offer buyers the most comfortable conditions for cooperation (low prices, free delivery, free trial samples, etc.).

Experts note the cyclical nature of the Chinese goods market. The cycle is approximately 3 years. There is a high probability that some commodity items that were actively sold three years ago will be popular this year (with the exception of gadgets).

Business with China in 10 steps

If you do not know how to start trading Chinese goods, you can use the ten easy steps. Here is a simple step by step plan:

  1. Find a capital of 1 thousand euros (better than your own, it is difficult to rise on borrowed money).
  2. Choose the five highest rated products (ratings can be tracked using the functionality of the Aliexpress website).
  3. Find the most loyal to wholesale buyers suppliers.
  4. Depending on the conditions offered by suppliers, choose the most profitable business model for the operation.
  5. Order trial copies of commodity items.
  6. Determine the target audience who will be interested in this particular product.
  7. Build an after-sales communication strategy with your target audience.
  8. Calculate your markup percentage.
  9. Form the first order to the supplier (the price of the first purchase should not exceed 50% of the initial start-up capital, or better - 30%).
  10. While the order is coming, start collecting applications for implementation according to the chosen scheme.

These steps need to be worked out on paper first, adding details as they go. This scheme should always be in front of your eyes, and then you can restore the logic of your actions at any time if you feel that some processes have begun to get out of control. To correct the situation, it will be enough to return to the point at which the mistake was made and work it out again.

Business visit to China

A business visit to China for one person costs about 1.5 thousand US dollars for 3 days (including visa and air travel in both directions). This amount does not include the services of an interpreter and a business consultant, without which it is difficult for a Russian entrepreneur to do at first. If you are bringing specialists from Russia with you, multiply the cost of the trip for one person by three. A Chinese translator and consultant will cost several times cheaper, but you need to negotiate and sign a contract with them while still in Russia.

If you plan to come to China and look for assistants there, then most likely you will just waste your time and will not be able to solve the business tasks that were planned.

Obviously, a business trip to China is an expensive undertaking, especially for a novice entrepreneur, so it is recommended to organize such a visit only after a few months of work and only with the money earned.

Experts advise saving up to 20% of earnings from each operation to a business development fund and direct this money to travel, organizing negotiations with Chinese manufacturers and expanding your own business.

Where to go in China:

  • to exhibitions (Shanghai International Spring Exhibition, Beijing Exhibition, Shenzhen Exhibition, etc.);
  • to fairs (Canton Fair, etc.);
  • to manufacturers interested in direct cooperation;
  • for themed sales.

It is quite difficult to track these events on your own, therefore, again, at first you will have to use the services of consultants.

It is believed that the most valuable advice that the pros can give to beginners is not to be afraid to start! But this advice does not work well if you don’t really know where to start. Therefore, we have put together a few business recommendations on what you need to do to feel confident in the market from the very first steps:

  • order a marketing research on the group of goods that you want to trade (the view of a third-party specialist will expand the scope of your ideas about the business that you plan to do);
  • take a motivational training specifically on Chinese business topics;
  • find a like-minded person on online platforms (forums, social networks, offline);
  • approach each of your transactions as if it were the work of your whole life (carefully study suppliers, demand from them all the necessary documents for the goods, stipulate delivery dates in detail, study the calendar of Chinese holidays, etc.);
  • always be prepared for the fact that your partners may turn out to be dishonest (do not fall into total distrust and paranoia, but it is always necessary to stipulate the conditions for exiting a failed transaction in advance);
  • form a reserve fund (at least 10% of profitable operations);
  • from the first purchase, keep your own advanced statistics (the more accounting positions you track and analyze, the more deliberate your every market entry will be).

Classic Beginner Mistakes

Here are three main mistakes that prevent newcomers from starting a business with China on their own:

  1. Lack of a business plan. This is not only about financial performance, but also about the fact that any business undertaking should have a goal. The best goal for a startup is to increase the turnover, register your own company and expand the scope of your business.
  2. Lack of specific deadlines (if you are looking for start-up capital, then a specific deadline must be set - no more than six months, but preferably three months).
  3. Unwillingness to learn new things. The business technology market every six months gives out modernized formulas for successful sales, if you do not study and use this information, you will not be able to compete adequately in your niche.

Unfortunately, universities, colleges and academies do not teach the intricacies of organizing business supplies from China. Yes, in academic institutions you can get basic knowledge of economics, logistics, financing, etc., but you need to gain practical experience on your own.

Or you can pay successful practitioners to share their work. Today, several well-known specialists work in the field of training in trade with China:

  • Dmitry Kovpak;
  • Evgeny Guryev and Vasily Noginov;
  • Alexander Martynov.

All trainers conduct online training, publish books, and also engage in individual counseling.

The average cost of a book is about 500 rubles, an online course is about 10,000 rubles, and individual counseling is about $200 per month.

Before you buy a subscription to a course or arrange for consultations, read the book written by the trainer. The material of the book will give you the opportunity to understand how well the author of the course is oriented in his business, whether he explains in detail to his clients the nuances of debugging a business and whether he is ready to share really successful schemes.

Define your resources

Correctly determining your starting positions is perhaps the first important step towards building a business strategy. If you overestimate your capabilities, you will quickly find yourself in the minuses, if you underestimate, it is highly likely that you will never reach a leadership position.

Is it possible to start a business with China without investment

Of course, it is possible to organize a business without investments at all, but with such a start, it will take you a very long time to increase the turnover.

Yes, you can order two watches on Aliexpress for 300 rubles, wait for delivery for a month, and then resell them for 1000 rubles. With such a scale, your earnings per month will be 1.4 thousand rubles. In order to earn 30 thousand rubles on the same watch, it is necessary to ensure a turnover twenty times greater.

If you want to organize a resale business without investments, you should understand that although you really don’t have to invest money in the purchase (since the entire purchase is made with customers’ money), you will still be promoting your site and collecting orders for your own money.

Even if, for example, you are an Internet marketing guru and you yourself can organize a powerful promotion of your project on the network, then in any case you will invest your efforts and time in this business - the resource that could be profitably sold to customers.

Yes, perhaps a few years ago, some active businessmen managed to make money “out of thin air”, but today the market for Chinese goods is very saturated, and in order to make money on it, you will have to give all your best.

How to define your niche in business

If you have a small starting capital, up to 1 thousand US dollars, and absolutely no experience as a reseller, then it is safest to trade goods with a purchase price in the range of 300 to 500 rubles. The advantage of doing this:

  • opportunity to receive bulk discounts;
  • in the middle price range, the risk of getting a product of very low quality is not so great;
  • large market.

Stay in this segment until you can invest up to 5 thousand dollars in purchases. With such investments, you can switch to higher quality goods and sell them not only through social networks and one-pagers, but also through shops and outlets in your city.

As for the choice of assortment, then trade in the product that you understand, that you feel and that you can evaluate as a specialist. You should know and be able to tell a lot of useful and interesting information about what you are trading. If you already have such a product in mind, start with it.

Efficient business models for trading Chinese goods

The main tasks of an entrepreneur who wants to do business on goods from China:

  • minimize the risk of purchasing unclaimed commodity items on the market;
  • cheap to buy a quality product;
  • cheaply and quickly deliver it to the end customer.

The ideal schema looks like this:

  • a reseller finds cheap goods in China;
  • attracts potential customers;
  • sets its own high margin;
  • collects orders;
  • makes a purchase from a Chinese manufacturer;
  • the manufacturer directly sends their purchases to customers;
  • Goods delivered to customers are of the right quality and on time.

The downside of this scheme is that it is very difficult to implement. However, you can get close to it. Moreover, there are a number of business models in the market today that bring the trade of Chinese goods as close as possible to an ideal intermediary scheme.

This model is for entrepreneurs who want to start a business with China from scratch. Within the framework of this project, the maximum that you can do is to receive wholesale discounts from suppliers for single purchases. Chinese manufacturers give wholesale discounts from 20% to 50%.

To implement this model, you need to find partners who also want to save on volume discounts. It is best to look for co-customers for a joint purchase on local forums or in regional social network groups.

You can arrange a face-to-face meeting with partners from your city, make sure they are trustworthy, and thereby minimize the risk of fraud.

There is no need to worry that, by organizing a joint supply to one city, the partners thereby create competitors for themselves with their own hands.

If the product is really worthwhile, in any case, you can sell it quickly and at a good price.

It is almost impossible to organize retail dropshipping from China, especially at the initial stage of business development with minimal investment. And that's why.

The dropshipping scheme assumes that the manufacturer himself organizes delivery to customers, and the dropshipper acts only as an intermediary (looking for customers for the manufacturer and giving him delivery addresses).

The functionality of purchasing Chinese sites (Aliexpress, Alibaba, Taobao, etc.) does not allow any other delivery, except to the address of the buyer.

But if you still consider the idea of dropshipping to be the most attractive for you, you can purchase a ready-made online store operating on a franchise of Chinese marketplaces.

Such franchises are traded today by the same Aliexpress, Taobao, Alibaba. The essence of the franchise is that a Russian entrepreneur buys a ready-made showcase site that hosts goods from Chinese manufacturers, promotes this site, promotes its advertising and forms orders to China through his showcase.

The cost of such a site is from 1 thousand dollars.

Wholesale

Wholesale of Chinese goods is a less risky business than buying a showcase site. The wholesaler's task is to find the most profitable product and then sell wholesale lots to smaller retail outlets.

This scheme can be implemented with business experience, official registration as a business entity and a purchase capital of at least 300 thousand rubles. With such a purchase, you can get good wholesale discounts.

The advantage of this scheme is that you will not have to spend time on retail sales. Having invested in a large wholesale and sold all the goods in one go, the entrepreneur gets the opportunity to accelerate the turnover of goods. By investing 300 thousand rubles and scrolling them three times in two months, you can earn a million rubles.

The complexity of this scheme is the search for reliable small wholesale customers. Usually, at first they agree to a deal, but when you need to make money for the goods, they begin to doubt and refuse to cooperate.

To prevent this scenario, immediately conclude sales contracts with your customers and take an advance from them. Then even in case of refusal you will be able to minimize your risk.

Search for business partners

You can look for partners in China when your business is officially registered, focused on foreign economic activity and has a turnover of at least one million rubles a month. This result can be achieved in two months of active work, provided that you started the business from scratch.

Partners can perform the following tasks:

  • help the Chinese manufacturer comply with the terms of delivery (partner-consultant);
  • set up the production of products to order (you agree with the Chinese manufacturer that he manufactures the goods especially for you);
  • produce goods for you (according to your specifications and under your trademark).

Finding a conscientious assistant in China is not at all easy. But if you have found it, then consider that you have taken the lead in the competition.

Assistant Partner

Most often they work independently or on behalf of a large consulting company. Contacts of two or three consultants in China can be obtained from companies that organize business trips to China. But in any case, you need to look for these contacts at the stage when you no longer want to be limited to purchases in online stores and you have a desire to make a business proposal to Chinese manufacturers.

What can a Russian merchant offer to a Chinese one:

  • an interesting idea in a cheap execution;
  • a good percentage of the sale of a batch of finished products;
  • redemption of draft blanks (with their subsequent refinement already in Russia).

The difficulty is that at the stage of developing an idea, you not only do not know the Chinese language, but also do not have up-to-date information about:

  • what is the unit cost of the product produced in the Chinese shop;
  • how much raw materials and resources cost;
  • how really new and relevant your idea is.

The answers to these and a number of other important questions will be given to you by a business consultant in China. He will also compile a list of the most reliable manufacturers with a good reputation and organize the most convenient way to deliver goods to Russia.

To make sure that your assistant really fulfills his obligations in good faith, at the stage of pre-contractual negotiations, ask him for the contacts of his clients, who can give recommendations.

Supplier search

If you plan to switch to wholesale purchases in China as soon as possible, you need to look for a reliable supplier from the first days of work.

Even when making small purchases on Aliexpress, enter into business negotiations with sellers for further cooperation. Yes, it is likely that 80% of your negotiations will fail, but even having three reliable suppliers will allow you to establish a profitable business.

Look for large manufacturers with about 1,000 employees. Cooperation with such companies is the least risky and more promising in terms of developing your own business reputation.

The disadvantage of cooperation with a large company is that the purchase price of the goods is higher than in small workshops that use cheap labor and outdated equipment.

To check whether your Chinese partner (intermediary, manufacturer) deserves trust, test it according to the following checklist:

  1. Own website (in Chinese and English).
  2. Date of creation of the site and information about its owners. This information can be verified using special identifying services (one of these services is http://whois.domaintools.com).
  3. Unhindered provision of company registration documents.
  4. Link in correspondence to business contacts.
  5. The fact that the counterparty does not hide the address of the production facilities (and you can check it on the map).
  6. The payment term is the counterparty's bank account.
  7. The absence of the company in the black lists of scammers.
  8. Willingness to provide product samples.
  9. The willingness of the counterparty to provide you with an invitation to apply for a business visa (even if you do not plan to travel to China yet, ask about the possibility of assistance from that party in obtaining your entry documents).
  10. Information about the supplier on the Internet. Use Google search, check all the data that you know (company name, legal and email address, contact names, etc.).

And, it goes without saying, before buying, you need to carefully study the reviews of real buyers about goods and about the manufacturer on electronic trading platforms.

Where and how to buy goods in China wholesale and retail

Alibaba, 1688 and Taobao sites are designed for wholesale deliveries from China, and Aliexpress for retail deliveries.

Taobao and 1688 only provide information in Chinese. Aliexpress is now available in many languages of the world, including Russian.

Despite the fact that many Chinese online buying experts claim that it is almost impossible to find a high-margin product for resale online today, these conclusions are not entirely true.

Yes, today it is much more difficult to open a super-profitable business than it was five or seven years ago (even on the American Amazon, some groups of goods are sold at the same prices as in China). But, for comparison, if the average retail margin for goods of Russian manufacturers is 50%, then the minimum markup for goods purchased on Chinese wholesale sites is 100%.

And then, the prospects for working with the Chinese are much more attractive than with a Russian manufacturer, because with an increase in turnover and long-term cooperation, Chinese companies are ready to double or even triple discounts on their goods, and a domestic manufacturer is unlikely to agree to such concessions.

A little about the psychology of Chinese businessmen

As already mentioned, we do not understand the mentality of Asian peoples, their laws and business customs, so the most reliable way to start a business in China is to cooperate with a business consultant. But if it is not possible to pay for the services of such a specialist (approximately 300 US dollars per month), then you must learn to navigate the specifics of building relationships with Chinese partners on your own. And here are some rules:

  1. Learn English and at least start learning Chinese.
  2. Be always friendly, calm, but never take a word.
  3. From the very beginning of building joint plans, demonstrate your professionalism and seriousness of business intentions (study the documents in detail, make your suggestions and adjustments, be attentive to the little things).
  4. Be open to partners (provide all your registration documents), but do not devote to your future business plans (in case of questions, it is better to prepare some clear and simple wording without details).
  5. Ask the Chinese for advice, but follow these tips with extreme caution, as the Chinese are very fond of "poking fun" at the Europeans (this step will allow you to better understand whether you are dealing with a prankster or a really conscientious partner).
  6. Fix all agreements on paper, and first consult with a lawyer about how a legitimate contract should look like under Chinese law.

We start our successful business

The most responsible moment for a businessman is to find a product , which suits both the price, the quality, and the terms of delivery. If you have found one, then consider that very soon your small business will turn into a large profitable project.

What goods you can earn on - TOP-10 goods from China

First of all, look for something new and not yet promoted in Runet among the following product groups:

  • pet supplies;
  • goods for children (literally all positions, from diapers to bicycles);
  • inexpensive haberdashery;
  • auto accessories.

Benefits of trading in these product groups:

  • they are in demand all year round;
  • cyclical demand (even if immediately after the purchase you did not sell the entire batch, it is highly likely that in a couple of months the demand for this product will become active again);
  • long shelf life;
  • the possibility of selling through offline points with a higher margin.

By purchasing a batch of such goods for 30 thousand rubles, you can earn at least 50 thousand rubles.

30 cent goods from China for resale

Goods with a purchase price of up to 20 rubles apiece sell very well in markets, stalls and supermarkets. Such purchases are best made by entrepreneurs who already have their own retail outlets and want to diversify their assortment.

The most popular product in this category:

  • car chargers,
  • liquid lipstick,
  • disposable tattoo,
  • cases for keys and credit cards made of eco-leather,
  • hairpins and jewelry,
  • key rings and cases for headphones,
  • magnets and silicone bracelets.

The average cost of goods purchased at 20 rubles per item in the market is at least 100 rubles. The wholesale selling price is about 60 rubles per piece.

So it turns out that by purchasing a batch of 200 thousand rubles (10 thousand pieces), the entrepreneur will immediately earn 400 thousand rubles. And this is a real business that is spinning today in every city and small town.

New ideas

Promoting new ideas of Chinese light industry in Russia is a profitable business, but very risky. They can be dealt with only after gaining experience in the Russian and Chinese markets.

But if you still want to promote such a new idea, then it’s better to do it not through online stores, where buyers come for goods they already know, but through landing pages and one-pagers. The format of such sites allows you to comprehensively advertise a new product, acquaint visitors with feedback from product owners and give maximum other useful information about the product.

Edible in small containers

One of the novelties of the Chinese market is small snack sets in colorful and convenient small containers. Such a set may consist of dried fruits, a tea or coffee bag, snacks, etc.

It is best to sell sets in bulk for gas station chains, supermarkets, pharmacies, drogerie stores.

The cost of such containers is from 100 to 500 rubles per purchase. You can sell them at double markup.

For a fur coat - to China!

You can make a business on fur coats only if you understand natural furs and can appreciate the quality of tailoring, and also if you have the opportunity to personally go to the Middle Kingdom, select the product yourself and arrange its delivery with a reliable carrier. In this case, you will be able to sell each fur coat for three times the purchase price (on average, fur coats that are sold in China for 1,000 US dollars cost 3,000 US dollars in Russia).

Almost all types of fur and the most popular models are represented on the Chinese market.

Product packaging

Another profitable idea, the essence of which is the purchase of bulk batches of semi-finished products in China and their subsequent packaging in Russia. In this format, you can trade Chinese tea, seeds, nuts, etc.

Packing material can also be purchased from Chinese manufacturers.

On average, earnings on such operations are up to 200% of the cost of the initial purchase.

Test purchase and markup determination

This is an obligatory stage for which you do not need to spare either time or effort. Order 10 units of a product and offer it to retailers for evaluation. If the product is relevant and in demand, retail itself will offer a good small wholesale price.

Yes, with such a scheme, there is a danger that while the main product is on sale, the retail buyer with whom you discussed sales options will find another seller or lose interest in your product. But this is your task as an entrepreneur: to stipulate all the terms of delivery so that your partners do not refuse their obligations.

Business with China is a fashionable entrepreneurial endeavor of recent years. Hundreds of people have earned millions by making purchases in China and selling them in the cities of our country.

A variety of goods from children's clothing to modern smartphones allows anyone to open a business, regardless of hobbies. And their low cost guarantees a minimum initial investment.

Despite the huge number of points where you can buy goods from the eastern country, the competition in this niche is still low. So, it's not too late to join the race.

Today we will look at what steps you need to take to organize your business on goods from China.

I want to start a business without investments - is it real?

It will not be possible to do without costs: at least it will be needed. It will cost 20-30 thousand rubles.

Although at first, a group in a social network can take on its role.

Step number 2. How much do you need to invest?

We have considered 4 business models, how much should be invested in each of them for implementation?

Dropshipping

The last three of them require investments, in addition to the purchase of goods. Therefore, if there is no money that can be invested in the business, then the choice is limited to dropshipping.

In this case, funds will be required to purchase the first batch of goods.

In addition, dropshipping attracts with minimal risks. We buy the goods, immediately after the order and send.

The only way to lose money is to refuse the goods, but this can be avoided if at least some prepayment is used.

In general, it is for these two reasons that novice businessmen choose this method.

Wholesale purchases

Of course, in this case, you first need to spend the money, and only then get it back. The advantage of the "Wholesale purchase and resale" method is the ability to immediately transfer the goods to the buyer. In the modern world, where everything is done very quickly, this is extremely important. And it is often better to save up and immediately order a large batch than to look for months for a client who is ready not only to purchase goods from you, but also to patiently wait for their delivery.

Own store

Well, if you have 500 thousand rubles or more, feel free to open your online store. Compared to the "Buy and Sell" scheme, only the development of the website is added.

Of course, you will have to spend a decent amount of money, but this is a one-time waste - then you only need to maintain its performance, which you can easily handle on your own.

A beautiful image of the product and the very fact that it is sold in a store (albeit via the Internet) will attract buyers. Immediately there will be a circle of regular customers who are ready to pay money for goods from China.

Step number 3. What to sell?

So far, we have ignored the most common question for beginners - "What to sell to make a profit?".

There is no single answer to this question. Chinese-made goods are sold with a bang, and no matter which ones - children's clothing, smartphone cases and cool souvenirs are in demand. This is the beauty of business with China: what to sell is not so important - everything is sold.

However, if you are just starting your business, it is better not to reinvent the wheel and concentrate on selling really popular products.

It is not difficult to understand which Chinese goods are promising in terms of their resale in Russia.

  1. Look at Yandex. Wordstate, what categories of products are most often searched by users and select popular
  2. Study the product market: it is better to open a business where there is less competition
  3. View product reviews of suppliers you want to work with. If they supply poor quality products, customers will not only leave, but will tell everyone they know about it
  4. Choose the group of goods about which you know more than about the rest. The better the seller knows what he is selling, the more customers will buy from him.

If you don’t understand anything that is popular today, it doesn’t matter - the main thing is not the availability of knowledge, but the desire to get it. Read articles on the Internet, ask your friends (for sure there is at least someone who knows the subject well), order the product yourself and use it for 1-2 months - you will form a very good idea of the subject. You don’t need to bother too much either: you will not be selling cars or space rockets - a story about a product for 1-2 minutes is enough.

Once you find your niche, you can order. Start by ordering a trial batch, some sellers have this option. Of course, you will spend 1-1.5 months, but you will insure yourself against the risk of buying a bunch of low-quality products and losing a significant amount.

Step number 4. Search for partners in China

No less popular among active entrepreneurs who want to learn how to establish business with China from scratch is the question of partners.

The type of seller you will cooperate with depends on the chosen business scheme. For example, dropshippers can work with middlemen from China - people or companies that buy goods from the manufacturer and then resell them to foreigners. For online stores and businessmen who prefer large wholesale, direct contacts with the manufacturer are suitable - this way the cost of purchasing products will be significantly reduced.

In our age of high technology, no one travels to China to find a supplier and sign an agreement with him - everything is done via the Internet. You can work on your own or turn to companies that help newcomers establish business with China. Their employees will tell you what mistakes you might encounter, how to avoid them, and how to grow your business faster.

If you are not planning a large wholesale, but limit yourself to a medium one, take a look at TaoBao, Aliexpress, TMart, Dinodirect or AliBaba - usually these Chinese sites have the lowest prices for goods, and the largest shopping center in the world will envy their assortment.

Each platform has its pros and cons. To make it convenient for you, I have brought them into a single comparative table.

NamePeculiaritiesAdvantagesFlaws
1 TaobaoThe largest retail site in the worldThe number of presented goods - more than 750 million
2 aliexpressThe most popular site among Russian customers, specializes in retailProtection of the rights of the client - if something goes wrong, the money can be returnedIncreased prices
3 TMartActively cooperates with dropshippersThere is no version of the site in Russian
4 Ali BabaCooperation with customers who are ready to purchase goods in large and medium wholesaleLow prices (2-3 times less than competitors)It is not possible to buy goods at retail
5 DinoDirectMore product range than other sitesConvenient website translated into RussianPrices are higher than competitors

An obligatory stage of working with a Chinese web resource is registration. You will need not only to enter your full name and contact details, but also the details of the payment card. They will be required so as not to waste time when paying for the goods.

If the site offers better prices than competitors, but the site is not translated into Russian, you should not despair. It is not necessary to learn Chinese: just use the Google website translator. For correspondence with Chinese partners, use the same technique. Manufacturers and sellers from the Middle Kingdom prefer to use English in their correspondence, so there will be no problems with the quality of the translation.

Step number 5. Checking a partner

Chinese organizations are not distinguished by punctuality and conscientiousness: to deceive a Russian partner is a common thing for them. Therefore, here are some tips that will help you find a reliable counterparty.

  • Always read reviews about doing business with China. The Internet is full of sites with responses from successful (or unsuccessful) businessmen.
  • Try to extract as many documents as possible from the potential supplier. Ask him for information about customer recommendations: if there are any, the Chinese company will definitely provide them.
  • When signing a contract for the supply of goods, be sure to include in the agreement clauses on payment for the goods after delivery and the ability to withdraw from the document if the other party suddenly wants to change it. If the supplier does not agree to such conditions, this is the first signal of his dishonesty. Chinese suppliers, aiming for long-term cooperation, always agree not to the requirements of customers - keep this in mind when you enter into an agreement.

Checking a partner is one of the most important stages of organizing a business. With its help, you will get rid of a whole range of such problems:

  • One-day companies. There are organizations that have a beautiful website, where all the benefits of cooperation are colorfully described. Only the wrapper does not match the content: after receiving the money, these companies stop communicating. In order not to "run into" a one-day company, do not transfer money before the delivery of the goods. Reliable Chinese suppliers are well aware of the buyer's risk and will not insist on prepayment.
  • Low product quality. D Even today, the quality of goods made in China often leaves much to be desired. Sometimes the buyer receives such products, which then it is simply embarrassing to sell. To avoid this, write down the minimum requirements for product quality in the agreement. If they are not met, the supplier will not receive the money, and even pay a fine.
  1. check how long the supplier's website has existed: if it is registered a month ago or less, it is better to choose another company
  2. study the coordinates: reliable organizations write everything about their location, up to the office number
  3. check on which domain the company's corporate mail is registered: if there is no mail service on the seller's website, then the organization is dubious
  4. read the details for payment: it is important that these are the accounts of the company, and not those who work in it
  5. look at all language versions of the site: if the web resource is only in English, then it was made by scammers (real Chinese companies, which is logical, must have a translation into Chinese)
  6. check all lists of fraudulent organizations - they are on the Internet upon request
  7. request documents regulating the activities of the company
  8. ask a potential partner to arrange a visit to the production of goods: if the reaction is sharply negative, you probably contacted scammers

China has its own trade department - the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Its web resource publishes information about all companies operating in China. If you have a friend who knows Chinese well, then he will tell you everything about a potential partner, devoting only 5-7 minutes to the website of the department.

Step number 6. Checking the terms of delivery of products

Usually, suppliers place information about the order and delivery of their goods in a separate section of the site. It indicates the prices for the supply of different batches of products and the nuances of customs clearance.

Entrepreneurs who have chosen small wholesale do not have to think about border control - it will pass without problems. But with larger batches, you will have to sweat: all documents must be in order, otherwise products will not be released outside of China.

Step number 7. Finding clients

The goods should not be stale for a long time - this will not bring profit. Ideally, you need to set up processes so that products are sold before they are delivered. But this cannot be achieved right away. This means that you will have to try different sales methods.

For entrepreneurs who decide to start a business with China, I recommend the following:

Landings

Landing - "landing" page: on it, customers leave their contact information. This is a one-page, bright site, where all the benefits of the offer are presented and there is a form for collecting data. Interested visitors enter their phone numbers and email addresses, which are then contacted.

It is difficult to develop a landing page from scratch, and the result, most likely, will not live up to expectations. It is better to order a “landing” page from freelancers. The cost is 7-10 thousand rubles, which is quite a bit compared to future profit.

Groups in social networks

Many firms that are successfully engaged in trade have been promoted precisely in social networks.

The functionality of groups on sites where people communicate with each other is ideal for resale. You can create multiple communities for different audiences. The language of communication is simple: you don’t have to describe the benefits of the product officially and beautifully. In addition, social network users are very easy to convince to buy a product in the process of personal communication.

I wrote about how to promote my group in this article: "".

Ad aggregators

Sites that collect ads for the sale and purchase of goods are the third category of web resources that you should definitely pay attention to.

A classic example of such a portal is Avito.ru. Every day, 7 million visitors come here. The last time I posted an ad here, 500 people viewed it in a day, and the next day a buyer was found.

From personal experience, I will say that among my friends there are people who earn money by selling goods from China on Avito.

Step number 8. Testing the product

Be sure to demand trial batches from sellers - the risk of running into outright counterfeit is too great. As soon as the probes are received, they need to be tested.

How exactly to check the product depends on its type. For example, toys should be made of more or less high-quality plastic that does not stink or stain everything it touches. And the clothes should correspond to the specified size (many Chinese firms are very small) and not tear after two or three socks.

Be sure to check all the functions of the product (if it is, for example, a phone). If something does not work, do not contact the seller again: you cannot count on the fact that the defect is a single one. Remember that the success of a business depends on the quality of the product. And it’s better to spend time looking for a good supplier than to lose customers before you open up.

What is in demand?

Business with China has existed for a long time, and all businessmen know what to trade.

Clothes, shoes

Even on one Aliexpress, you can dress the whole family, while on other sites there is more choice. Chinese clothes today look good, more or less true to size and keep well for 2-3 seasons. Considering its price, the characteristics are not bad.

Car Gadgets

Even in an economy class car, you can see navigators and video recorders. They were bought most often from those who are engaged in deliveries from China - the quality of the products is the same, and the prices are lower.

The number of cars is growing, which means that the number of customers willing to buy various technical innovations will only increase.

Smartphones, tablets

Russian stores sell a bunch of phones made in China, with a markup of 200-300%. When ordering such equipment in China, you can save. True, not everyone is ready to wait 1-2 months and contact Chinese suppliers.

By ordering new items in advance, you will get a chance to quickly sell your equipment at a good margin and get instant profit.

Smartphone cases

The same story as with smartphones - the margin for peripherals in Russian stores sometimes reaches 500-1000%! The advantage of the smartphone trade is that often customers are not limited to one or two cases, but buy 5-7 pieces at once.

Disposable plastic products

The household always needs disposable utensils, hygiene products, kitchen utensils. All this is sold in stores, but ordering from China is cheaper.

Having in reserve several dozen toothbrushes, sets of disposable cups and saucers, towels, you can sell them to customers and make good money. As with cases, in 50% or more cases, buyers purchase several products at once.

Toys

Chinese toys are still of low quality, but is it necessary for a child who will break them anyway?

Parents are well aware of this and are looking for “educators” not in branded stores, but from suppliers from China. Having toys for boys and girls in your assortment, you guarantee yourself customers even in times of crisis.

Big business with China - bulk purchases

After reading the article, decided to open your own online store? Then you will need to order large quantities of goods - you can’t live on a small wholesale outlet.

This case has its own nuances. In order for everything to be according to the law and pass without problems, follow the following sequence of actions:

  • purchase of goods only from a supplier capable of providing certificates and invoices (the price in this case will be higher)
  • passing customs procedures with payment of duties
  • obtaining certificates of conformity (fortunately, this does not apply to all categories of goods).

Chinese goods enter Russia either by rail or by trucks. The latter option is more expensive, but much faster: 2-4 weeks versus several months. You can also order delivery by air, but then you have to put a price tag on the product 3-4 times higher than that of competitors.

Delivery considerations

The cost of goods purchased in China can be indicated in two options - EXW and FOB. What is the difference?

  • FOB - the price of the goods already includes its delivery to Shanghai (Chinese sorting center, all shipments are distributed here) and the execution of the necessary papers. The cost of delivery in this case is equal to the delivery to the place where your business is opened.
  • If the abbreviation EXW is indicated in the “Price” column, then the seller does not deliver it, but sells products directly from the factory. In this case, all transportation costs will be borne by you. Usually, the EXW price is lower than the FOB price, since only direct manufacturers of products put such a price.

In order for a product to leave China, it must be accompanied by an export license. Without this paper, you and your products will not be released outside the PRC. Be sure to ask the supplier if there is a license to export products or not. Otherwise, you will have to look for a client in China (without knowing the language, this is unrealistic) or say goodbye to the money spent.

Business with China is a profitable business. But why do so few people do it?

Many people think that business is hindered by intense competition, tight government control and a bad economic environment. But this is not so at all: there are so many Chinese goods that, perhaps, everyone can sell them; the state intervenes in the process only at customs; and the fall in incomes of the population, on the contrary, only stimulates to pay attention to goods from China.

But still, there are factors that make doing business with Chinese companies much more difficult. And you need to know about them before starting your own business.

To become a successful merchant of goods from the Middle Kingdom, you must:

  • correctly assess how profitable it is to import and sell a particular product
  • quickly calculate how much the goods will cost you
  • successfully negotiate, forcing partners to accept your point of view and at the same time understanding when to give in
  • master the skills of a marketer and actively promote the product on various platforms

Strive to set up processes so that they run autonomously. In this case, you will be able to control them, quickly make changes and free up time for new projects.

What can be wrong?

Whatever they say, doing business with Chinese suppliers is a tough business. Many successful entrepreneurs at one time filled the bumps and now do not make the mistakes that cost them their profits.

These mistakes are known, and it would be foolish not to study and remember them.

  1. Lack of purpose. Many do not have an understanding of what the business will become - just a hobby or a full-time income. Because of this, the attitude to the matter is lax, and there are no results.
  2. Fear of failure. Do not be afraid to try: it will not work once, it will not work twice, the third time everything will turn out well. Fear is not a reason not to open your business with China if everything else (contacts with suppliers, customers, money) is already there.
  3. Obsession with money. Many pay too much attention to start-up capital - or rather, its absence. If you don’t have it, go into dropshipping - you don’t need money for it at all. Earn, you can do more profitable business.
  4. Unwillingness to learn new things. Perhaps the most important mistake that prevents not only starting a business with China, but also living in principle. Be prepared for unusual things, interesting features of doing business by the Chinese. If you wish, you can understand everything and adapt to everything, and very successfully.

How to work with suppliers?

The fate of the business depends on the reliability of your partner - you can’t cook porridge with a bad seller. I suggest once again to go over the rules for working with suppliers.

This list can be printed separately and hung in a prominent place: this way the information will be remembered faster.

  1. Trust, but verify: the activities of Chinese companies always need to be controlled.
  2. Officiality is above all: if you plan to buy something from a seller, be sure to draw up and sign a document.
  3. The client will only buy a quality product: test samples and reject them if they do not meet the previously agreed requirements.
  4. The best contact is in person: you need to talk with the seller directly, without unnecessary intermediaries.
  5. Fix in the agreements the procedure for the delivery of defective products.
  6. Keep an eye on the market: perhaps right now another supplier is offering better conditions than the one you are cooperating with now.
  7. Evaluate all the activities of the partner: not only the quality of the goods and the speed of delivery are important, but also the service.

Where to learn?

In the article, I already said that the success of the case depends on who you will learn and consult with. Therefore, it is important to choose the right mentor to save money and time.

I myself have been studying this topic for over a year, attending various paid webinars and courses. As a result, I came to the conclusion that 90% of teachers are not competent and do not even have personal experience.

As a result, I decided to sign up for a free marathon, authored by Evgeny Guryev. For me it was a discovery - the most useful information from a practitioner who earns millions of rubles. I concluded for myself that this is the best coach on the Russian-speaking Internet: no water, only working equipment.

Just watch this video, in which one of his students talks about his results:

Conclusion

Business with China is not a goldmine, but an idea that can bring good profits. Goods from this country are in stable demand, which is weakly dependent on conditions in the economy.

You can work with Chinese suppliers without investing your own funds: the talent of the seller and the client base are enough. In general, you can work with companies from the Middle Kingdom with any wallet: for those who are not ready to invest, dropshipping is suitable, for those who wish, an online store is a good option.

A successful business with China cannot be built if you do not go through all the steps of its creation. Act in stages and do not run ahead of the locomotive: a quick victory can be replaced by a total fiasco.

Try not to make mistakes in your business: of course, you can’t insure yourself from this, but you can reduce their negative impact. The tips, which I described in detail in one of the sections, will help.

This concludes the manual for creating a business with China. If you have any questions about the topic of the article, be sure to write in the comments. We also welcome the opinions of those who have already tried to resell products from the Middle Kingdom: personal experience will make the material better and reveal important nuances.
